WTB a complete short bed

I just purchased a '65 K-10 short bed pickup, except it doesn't have the bed. The rest of the truck is in really good shape, so I'm looking for something I can give to a body shop to touch up and paint to match. This isn't a restoration project, so stepside or fleetside doesn't matter, but the more complete the better.

The swap meets at Carlisle are a goof place for this kind of stuff if you don't have any luck locally to you. Also try searching C10 on search tempest using your zip code and find everything on Craigslist for as far around you as you want to travel.

Apart from the truck itself, pickings have been slim on CL/ST. Carlisle might be an option, but it is still a bit of a haul from me.

Did you ever figure out if the truck was on the original frame? Carlisle is 5 1/2 hours for me and been a good place to find parts. Another thing you can do is search for the parts to build one.

Also the step bed parts are all available through Mar-K. they are a supporting vendor and have excellent products!

I have not. I've only seen the truck the one time. I have to ask the guy when I speak with him next. It slipped my mind yesterday when I spoke to the guy. One thing I noticed (and I supposed this could be a bad assumption) is that the truck has front drum brakes. I know, that means nothing on a truck that some guy was building in his garage over a span of 20 years or so, but I would think that with all the other upgrades that were done disc brakes would have been on the list. Since this isn't a restoration project for me, I'm not against having a newer frame as long as I have the paperwork for what I'm buying.

I have the drums still on my 66. I did split the system and go with power brakes and it stops very well.

I'm in FL, I just pulled a '68 stepside bed off of my '66. Bottom was replaced with diamond plate steel somewhere in the truck's life. Not in great shape, but I would assume being in FL would be the greater deterrent.

Thanks for the info. I'm holding out for a period correct '60-'66 bed. The truck comes with components for a '75 bed if I wanted to go that route.

I understand completely. That's why I took it off to begin with. ;)

Still seeking a complete short bed. I got the truck running today. I still have brakes to rebuild and a few other things before I'm going to want to get it on the road, but sooner or later I'm going to need a bed. Mar-K is my Plan B, but I'd love to find something "pre-loved" for a bit less. The Mar-K looks great, but shipping from Oklahoma won't be cheap and I'll still have to come up with fenders and flooring.

don't know how far you are from buffalo ny but there is a stepside on craigslist he wants $1000. looks like the whole back half of the truck was used to make it a trailer.

I must be searching with the wrong terms. Buffalo is a bit of a haul, but I gotta do what I gotta do. Can you spare a link?

Wow , stepsides are worth like 250 here tops.

What I'm learning is that getting a complete bed is going to cost X to procure; the further away they are from the northeast the cheaper they are, but the more one will cost to get home.

Do you know anyone who long hauls? Might be worth it to ask a board member to go look at one, maybe even pick up one for you ( after you paid obviously) and store it until you can have it picked up or?

If you find one around Dallas, Id be willing to store it for you, if you needed to.

Unfortunately I don't. I have friends in Georgia and a few other places, but my resources for something this size are somewhat limited.

That bed in buffalo looks pretty good. Put it on your truck and you have a 12 bolt and trailing arms left to sell. Also it comes in an easy to get home package.

It looks pretty good, but is it me or does the wheel seem back a bit in the wheel wheel well on the passenger side? The only reason I mention it is that we're talking about a 6 1/2 tow from the greater Buffalo area to me.

both with lots of spare parts!

I've reached out to both. Thanks. I obviously need to work on my CL searching. I've been using Search Tempest but it isn't what it used to be.
