Re: Headliner with speakers?
A PO installed it in mine and I like it. I did replace the speakers that it came with, though, because they were, um, more intended for people without serious taste in high fidelity, shall we say. I got the originals out without taking the thing down, even though they were mounted from behind, by uninstalling them with extreme prejudice. Basically cutting them apart through the holes and removing the pieces. I replaced them with Kicker DS400 speakers, and added an active subwoofer on the rear cab wall. The Kicker speakers mounted using speed nuts on the headliner with no problems. I like how it all came out, and the sound quality. I hooked the two passenger speakers to rear, and the two driver speakers to front, so I can use the fader to kill the passenger side ones when I am alone.
Here's the current Kicker 4" DS-series speakers: ![]() Here's how I did the subwoofer: http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forum/g...oobs-rcsb.html Finally, here's a pic of the headliner in my truck. http://users.rcn.com/weyand/smalls/imag0388small.jpg |
Re: Headliner with speakers?
Wow that is awesome, I'm really looking Into this upgrade. I just want a sound in the truck as of right now it doesn't have a stereo or speakers. I dont know where speakers go on these trucks since it doesn't have any so I figured having speakers up top would be cool instead on the doors,

Re: Headliner with speakers?
Always thought those were cool.

Re: Headliner with speakers?
I def want to buy this for my truck looks good and I hear change the speakers and it sounds good
|
Re: Headliner with speakers?
Had one in my 86. Fits good, sounds terrible. I used the supplied speakers. My truck didn't have the interior trim so I used the old trim from a 74 that I parted out. Not sure how they look without the trim.

Re: Headliner with speakers?
The trim holds them in. As far as I can tell there are no other fasteners other than the trim holding it up. There's also a pocket for the radio if you don't want to cut the dash. I didn't want to move my eyes that far off the road, and I didn't want to have it up there saying "Steal me! Steal me!", so I cut the dash and put the radio in the dash. Anyway, here is the radio pocket. It's in the center.

Re: Headliner with speakers?
Starts to take away from the old, classic look of the truck. Start getting to far into that kind of stuff, and I'd really rather have a newer truck.
Its cooler when the modern technology is hidden away somehow. |
Re: Headliner with speakers?
These things have been out since forever.

Re: Headliner with speakers?
Your correct, I think I bought mine from J.C. Whitney in 1990. Must be a reason they are still available.
|
Re: Headliner with speakers?
Are they leather or plastic
|
Re: Headliner with speakers?
Heavy engineering plastic. I think it would be paintable in interior colors just like the trim.

Re: Headliner with speakers?
Ok cool, thanks for the very informative thread, I'll be looking I to these when the time comes
