235 to v8 swap

Hi everyone. I wanted to swap out my stock 235 to a small block chevy. I have a 57 chevy car bellhousing and my whole clutch setup is new. I'd like to keep the stock floor starter. Will my starter bolt up to the v8 bellhousing?

You'll have to loose the floor starter and starter itself. You'll need to buy a new ignition switch and starter. The Bellhousing you have should work

Or you loose the starter ( have to ) and run the foot stomp to activate a switch that acts like the foot stomp to start the new starter.

When I converted mine in 85 I used the six starter, but converted to the V8 nose piece. Kept the original key switch and added a push button on the bottom of the dash.

Does anyone have a pic of the v8 bellhousing mount to the frame? I'm not sure if I'll need to buy a mount.

There are two mouints that you have to buy and they are two part. The saddle that sits on top of the crossmember and the piece that goes up inside the crossmember.

I am not positive that the car bellhousing will bolt up to the truck mounts without issues but you can give it a try. They look closer than I thought they did.

This should look similar to the car bellhousing you have. Note that it has two bolt holes in each mounting pad.

This is a truck bellhousing Note that there is only one bolt hole in the pad on each side for the mounts

So it looks like I'll have to drill 2 new holes in my crossmember, get new mounting pads, and get the car style starter. Where can I get those mounting pads?

Re: 235 to v8 swap

Look at the angle on the mounting pads. They're different. If you can snag a truck bell housing for a v8 you'll be better off. All you clutch linkage will be easier to hook up. Larry
