Has gauge issues ?

The gauge in my 71 GMC was not working so I removed it for inspection. Looked ok but float was full of gas. I ordered a new one from Truckers. Little over a year later it is full again ? I installed another one I got in a parts rig, now when I turn off the ignition the gauge still reads about 3/4 full instead of returning to empty ? Any suggestions would help. I tested it out of tank and it would go up and down as I moved the float leaver. Thanks

If it works out of the tank but not in the tank it could be that it's getting hung up and not moving? I just swapped mine out for a new one but kept my old float just for this reason.

My gauge has never returned to empty with the key off.

I agree with Lee. Mine hasn't ever went to empty when shut off. I don't know if it's supposed to but the last time my truck was running that is how it functioned.
