The original paint was too faded to match, The Guy at the paint shop suggested flat aluminum, but It was duller than I remember. Any Suggestions?

Have you thought about having it powdercoated?

Hey WhippinSaw, that bumper's looking great! Your side extensions look just right! Wish I could help you on the original paint, as you can see below, mine had several different layers. Looks like it was originally white, then grey, sea foam green then light blue! Since I have the white painted grille I just went with white & about 5 coats of clear to add a bit of protection. Looking forward to seeing the finished bumper, I do like the aluminum, maybe top coat it with some semi-gloss clear to make it less dull? As donthekawguy suggested, powder coating is a really good option too. Good luck!

Try "argent", the colour used on GM rally wheels.

X2. Also, a little sheen (but not glossy) will help keep it clean.

Never thought of that, I'm going to have a skim coat of bondo over the welds, can they powder coat over that? Gonna rattle can it for now so I can be sure of the color.

Thanks murphy98, I guess it wouldn't be hard to change the color, but Ill pass on the sea foam green  The white barden bumper on your truck is right on :metal: The original paint on the bumper was glossy after I buffed it out,
I gonna try a couple different colors.

Thanks jayoldschool, Wheel paint might be my best option, and that argent looks pretty close. Thanks for the suggestion:metal:

I don't blame you for passing on the sea foam green, not sure what was up with that?? I do hear there are some body fillers that will take the heat from the powder coating ovens but not sure which ones. I guess if you ever did go that route, you could check with your powder coating shop to see what the best filler would be. Rattle can sounds good for now anyway, like the Argent suggestion too.

I'd say High Gloss Aluminum color...or a high gloss silver...maybe even metallic?

This is the route I'd go. Forgot to check the silver book, but I'll look tonight for sure.

The chrome ball hitch and the bumper almost looks the same color, Is that a chrome barden bumper? The side extension appear to have been made up (no diamond plate, unusual bumper tip and visible weld seam) and in the second pic, the bumper extensions appear to be a more of a silver color, I real like the look of it, nice job, after modifying mine I can really appreciate his work. Maybe they make a chrome paint to match the rest of my truck.

The bumper is exactly the way it was installed at the dealer, no mods. I've seen a few just like this here on the forum - from a West coast supplier I'm guessing. The paint is not "chrome paint", but simply left-over silver acrylic lacquer from a friends old 356 Porsche project. Sprayed fully wet and let alone, no buffing. Old school lacquer like this tends to dry a little dull and needs to be buffed if you want a high shine.

I looked in the silver book and it was no help. Gave me plenty of dealers info, but what pic were there were in b&w....but was worth a shot.

Oem4me's pic was the best original example I could find from what I saw in factory literature.

I have seen the fleets side extensions before but never a close up of them, really like the looks of them. Thanks for the info

Went to the paint shop today and picked up a quart of argent silver today, looks to be very close to the stock color, My old bumper didn't have anything left that was un-faded to match up. The argent silver will match the rest of the chrome on the truck nicely, and if mine bumper turns out as good as Oem4me's I'll be happy.
Thanks for the input, I'll post some pics next week when I get er done.

For what it's worth, here's a pic of my unrepainted Sports Liner bumper from '66. I, too, agonize over repainting it.

The Sports Liner bumper color appears to be the same as the barden, I had no luck at all matching the color. Yours looks to be in much better shape, good luck restoring it.
