any other welding masks out there ?
I was trying to find other ways to shield my eyes from mig welder.I usually only do small stitch welds and the helmut just gets in my way and I don,t like the ones you hold in your hand as I use that hand to hold stuff or guide my nozzle.I was wondering if they had a clip on shield that clipped onto the gun nozzle,or auto darkening glasses.

Have you tried auto darkening welding goggles? Just as a safety side note, a big part of the protection a welding helmet provides is shielding your skin from UV light. As a person who has suffered sunburns from emergency welding projects as a youngster, I cover myself head to toe and use sunblock on my neck and throat even with my welding helmet.

Do you have a GOOD auto darkening helmet? Most good helmets are like looking through a pair of sunglasses.

Re: any other welding masks out there ?
Get an auto darkening helmet. Part of the function is keeping you from getting flashburn due to reflected light (from the side, top). That's why most welding areas are painted black. Usually not practical for hobby and truck welding.
Good luck! Jeff |

I have a helmut but it just gets in my road, if I have to crawl around in the truck,I,m redoing the floor.I just thought I would see if there were any other options,oh well safety first.

I just took delivery of my accustrike this week. Will try it out in a few days. I am very impressed with the weight, functionality and overall look. Only 90 bucks to the door.

I have a PowerWeld Helmet, which is a middle-of-the-road welding mask and has served me well.
I started with a Harbor Freight mask, which served me well, I just didn't like the build quality. But for $79, it was hard to beat. I switched to the PowerWeld for ~$110. Its auto-darkening was a bit better, it had a grinding mode, and it was adjustable shade. Its basically a Miller-helmet copy and does anything I need, and the price was pretty good. |
