1972 C10 Cheyenne LWB

Hello everyone. This is my first post and my first restoration. My avatar is the truck I will be restoring and will add more photos soon. This was my dads first vehicle and I want to get it back to show room condition. This is a project to allow me and my dad to spend time together and build a stronger father son relationship. This upcoming weekend I plan on removing the bed and starting the tear down. It will be a complete frame off project. I would appreciate any advice I can get and appreciate all the knowledge thats been shared.

Have fun with it. It's nice to see the generations these trucks mean something to. I'll be looking at your progress

Progress 3.

I found some near perfect bedsides 2 hours from my house. The truck was a C20 super that always had a camper shell on it.

When my dad had my truck, he was not a fan of the rubber floor mat. And he put in some left over house carpet that looked very simalar to yours.Attachment 1280184

That was one of the first things i pulled out and got rid of.

I think it was. When my dad bought it from the dealership he was told it had some interesting options for a 1/2 ton like the cab lights and a few other items.

Re: 1972 C10 Cheyenne LWB

There is quite a bit of rust in the passenger floor and the cab supports underneath are nearly gone. When I pull the cab off hopefully I can replace everything with patch panels instead of an entire floor. We also made a redneck radiator core support so I could drive the truck to the shed where I am storing it. Hopefully my next pics will be of the truck at my inlaws either getting the engine and trans pulled out or the cab. I'll definitely need your guys advice throughout. I'm also leaning towards a LS3 480 connect and cruise package if I can save enough money in the next couple years for you guys that may wonder which engine will go into the truck.

So i changed my plans for the truck. This truck was my dads first vehicle which he bought from the local dealership. I have decided to complete this truck and give it back to my dad as a surprise. As many of you i had a far from perfect upbringing. Although we had our problems my dad always made sure he never missed a day at his 2nd shift factory job so his kids could live a better life than he did. These old trucks hold so many memories for me and most of us. I know its just a ****ing truck. But these vehicles can bring people together.

What a nice color combo! I rarely see yellow and white...are you planning to return the exterior to stock?

jvs99560 12-20-2014 11:10 AM

Re: 1972 C10 Cheyenne LWB

The goal is to get it as close to stock as possible. So yes the yellow and white is staying. I like the green and white in your avatar. I don't think I've seen one with that color and two tone combination.

It's great that you & your dad can do a major project like this together. It's also great that you choose to focus on the things he did right instead of wrong. Hope it goes well!

My dad is the one removing the cab lights. It was funny to watch him jump up on the truck and go at it. He has never really been too interested in automotive work so it was a good time. The guy in the black shirt with the back window who is my brother in-law. He really like working on the truck so it has become a family affair haha.
