Seat Springs Repairable?
I'm wondering if I'll be able to salvage my stock seat in my 65. One of the springs is broken and a piece missing but not the regular springs but on the outer edge where the seat meets the door. Is there any way they can replace this or shall I look elsewhere for a seat?

Re: Seat Springs Repairable?
I have heard of people weld up springs to repair them. I just don't have any idea how well it works. I tried once, but my welding skills were/are lacking enough to do it.

Re: Seat Springs Repairable?
I welded my springs that were broken and they have held up just fine and made the seat feel new.

Re: Seat Springs Repairable?
What material could I use for the missing piece? The spring in question helps support the side and are shaped like square S shapes.

Re: Seat Springs Repairable?
you can buy the s springs you are talking about on-e bay. need some pics of your seat. I just repaired my custom comfort seat bottom. what seat type do you have?

Re: Seat Springs Repairable?
I was looking at LMC again and they do offer a decent looking velour cover kit for $189 plus they also have the springs. How difficult of a job is this for a first timer? The driver side is saggy so it will need some sort of foam reinforcement but the only broken spring is one of the end springs. Can you just buy the proper foam locally I wonder in order to reinforce that driver side? When I had my 72 the upholstery shop just replaced foam on the driver side and it turned out great so I'm thinking that would fix this seat right up.

Re: Seat Springs Repairable?
Disregard my whole post. I just got off the phone with the guy who did my 72 bench seat and he said he'd charge $300 at the most including spring repair and foam. That's a no brainer and I know he does good work.

Re: Seat Springs Repairable?
That is a good deal. A few years ago I repaired and recovered the seat for my '63 and I spent more than $300 doing it so having a place that does it for that price without you having the headache and hassle is worth it.

Re: Seat Springs Repairable?
That is a screaming deal! The reason I had thought of doing it my self to save money was because I figured his prices would've increased but that's what he charged me when he did my 72 seat in like 2001 lol. He's an old timer and must love what he does. I'm sure these benches are sheer cake and easy money to him. I figure he makes his money on later model stuff and custom stuff. I'm sure glad I called but I started getting discouraged when I was looking at the prices online for just the materials and you're very limited on fabrics.

if you've go the frame bare right now- can you please do me a favor and measure it out and let me know the measurements? I'd really appreciate it
