Re: upper ball joint
The spindles and the balljoints must match.
What year spindles and what year balljoints? |
Re: upper ball joint
Spindles are marked 60-72, have proforged ball joint 101-10037 which is for 1970.

Re: upper ball joint
the ball joint goes into the spindle but not enought to get nut on . do i have to press together seem tapers dont match ?
|
Re: upper ball joint
Spindle break down as follows:
60-62 63-70 71-72 73-87 Light Duty 73-87 HD If the upper doesn't match,... neither will the outer tie rod. You have to figure out what spindle you have. |
Re: upper ball joint
Where did the spindles come from?
|
Re: upper ball joint
Mcgaughys spindles
|
Re: upper ball joint
its all for a PB dropmember , ordered all for azproperfomance.

You need a 63-70 conversion spindle. I don't know what else to tell you. Maybe your balljoint was boxed wrong. Does the outer tie rod fit? |
Re: upper ball joint

Re: upper ball joint
i think i got wrong ball joints
|
Re: upper ball joint
A 1970 C10 truck requires a McGaughy's 63173 spindle.
Is that what you have? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mm...del/c10-pickup |
Re: upper ball joint
Ok.
I guess a little more info in the first post would have help me get you an answer quicker. Forget everything I posted. |
Re: upper ball joint
sorry , i have a 1971 c10 stepside , installing drop member , have mcgaughys spindles 63176. no marking on spindles but thats what says on order sheet. i have proforged ball joints , lowers are 101-10036 uppers are 101-10037, lowers are fine , uppers not .i looked up numbers and i see that 101-10037 is for 1970 , so most likely that was my problem.
sorry for confusion i was at it in my garage, on phone. lol. thanks for your response |
Re: upper ball joint
I have a '72 and just went through this, went to three different auto parts stores. All the upper ball joints I tried did NOT go through the spindle far enough to get the nut past the cotter pin hole on the originals or the new drop spindles.
Then I went to NAPA and bought the NAPA brand ball joints from them that fit perfectly. I think there are different ball joints made by different companies that try to say they are for our trucks but just don't have the right measurements. They try to be the one set for all but just don't cut it and end up being junk and causing us a lot of misery. Don't go cheap! Get the expensive ones and you will be happy. |
