exhaust cut outs..

I have been wanting, for a while now, to be able to switch between running through mufflers or running without mufflers for a while. Then I have heard about cut outs and now I am doing my research...

My question is how reliable are they when running through mufflers? Do they leak?

I just want something that won't leak, while functioning properly.

Thanks
Jason

i'd say it depends on what kind you get and who does it, but i think they oughta be pretty reliable a lot of hot rods around here have them.

thanks

Anyone else have any experience with them good or bad??

Thanks
Jason

No experience here but I will second the observance of so many hot rods that have 'em and don't leak.

I have been looking into them too and what would be really sweet are the ones with the electric mechanism. For the small, pocket change price of about $400 you yourself can have a jaw dropping electric cutout. Pull up to a ricer at the local cruzin strip, press the button. Bam! Open headers! He'll go buzzing back down the street the other way.

yes, but i have been looking at the Mr. Gasket ones. I believe they have a cable that you can route up to the cab and pull the knob and it will work that way. But do the cutouts restrict all air movement to the mufflers or does the air run down both the muffler and the open pipe??

Thanks Jason

Good ???

Do they cut off the muffler when opened or just open the pipe ??

The ones I have seen just open up the open pipe and leave the muffler pipe open also. I have heard the manual cable ones end up binding alot. I like the looks of Warlock's muffler that has a built in removable plate and also Jeg's exhaust cut out. However, both of these would require you to get under the vehicle to open the exhaust.

From what I have read, the 1/4 mile gains are nominal. Your mainly just getting the sound.
