1991 gauge cluster question

Plug and play in 86? 1991 cluster has electronic speedo for trans ls swap. Can I just plug it up?

No, it won't be a direct plug-in swap.

Here's an old thread with lots of info on the electronic speedometers that might be helpful --> http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=415091

I'm just trying to figure out how to use the speedo for a ls swap. I've seen where many swaps are using these.

I used a 91 cluster in my 77 that I swapped a 5.3 into. The cluster will bolt in but you need to add the connections to connector on the back of it and wire that to the PCM. Takes some time but makes for a slick looking swap

I used one in my 76 6.0l swap and it worked, had to move some wire around on the plug in, also had to add wire for oil pressure, as mine was originally mechanical, took some figuring, but looks slick.

How did you guys address speedo. Just wired from hook ups to new PCM?

Yes the PCM will send the signal to the speedo. I just had to move some of pins in the connector around and add a couple. Mine also had a factory mechanical oil pressure gauge. I also wired the check engine light in from the 91 cluster

Re: 1991 gauge cluster question

I removed the tailshaft from a 90-91 blazer t-case, as well as the toning ring and wires that lead up to the DRAC unit. Then I reinstalled on my 89 (removed cable driven unit) and then re-pinned my instrument cluster. I have a detailed write-up on the swap and it worked out great! From the DRAC, you can send the pulse to the EGM for fuel injection, abs, etc.......

There was even a pin difference from the 89 to the 90-91 era so your's will need to be changed.

Get the 1991 and 1986 wiring manuals from my sig. They will give you a pretty good idea of what's changed.
