Axle swap compatibility?

I found a rear end that is from a 72 Blazer. It's a 6 lug. Will 5 lug axles from a 71-72 fit in this rear end?

Thanks fp1967. Is something you have done before? Is it simply a straight swap or are there any modifications to be made?

Were Blazers running 6 lugs in 72? I know the trucks were not. You should measure your rear end to be sure it's not an earlier, more narrow one. Swapping axles in trucks is an easy process, just take your time and don't disturb the spider gears. Do a search here, there is a good write-up on doing this.

Here are some pictures the guy sent me about this rear end. He is 2 hours away so I haven't seen it myself. He snapped these before he went to work so it's all I have right now.

I would like to see a pic with the carrier rotated about 90 degrees because I don't see any clutches, so It looks like an open. But...I've never seen gear markings on the carrier like this. It is 3.73, and supposed to be from a 4WD. Can anyone identify this style?

Wow! Those ring gear teeth look hammered and that carriage looks like it was attacked by a ring gear! I don't know if it's worth four hours of drive time, let alone cash. Looks like you would need to replace everything in the case and, by the looks of the carriage, maybe the housing as well. Please follow up if he tells you what happened to it.

Looks like it lost a pinion bearing or the nut backed off. I wouldnt buy that. It would cost less to buy a better rear end than rebuild that one.

Shows how smart I am. I was looking at it on my phone and I was thinking it was some different kind of carrier. Now that I looked at it close up on a computer screen I can see it's all gnarled.

Well, back to the drawing board. I'll find one eventually.
