power windows

i have a question about power windows. i have a 1989 silverado and im having a problem with the windows not wanting to go up and down and the door locks not working. if i hit the door panel or slam the door they start back working. today i was pushing the button trying to get the window up and it caused my radio to skip. also when the driver side stops so does the passenger side. im thinking the switches. am i right or do i have a bigger problem? thanks in advance for any and all help.

The power to the switches is the issue if its both sides. You could have a frayed wire somewhere. Time to pull the door panels and grab a multimeter and check the wires and connections, both ground and 12 volts.

Both window & lock switches have prongs on the back side, ..they just plug in.

They can get corroded. First try this:
Get a firm butty knife and "pop" them out. Clean the contacts, then push them back in, then see if that fixes it.

Or, remove the bezel panel the switches are attached to, if they are stuck, due to corrosion, and remove the switches.

The switches are self-contained ( not serviceable )..... Contact LMC Truck & order new switches ( not expensive)......

I believe the problem driver door switches affect the passenger switch?

Replacing them can take as long as 40 minutes!!

I had the same problem & replacing the switches fixed it.

I would also check the wiring through the door jam. Its a common place for wires to break.

Had this happen on my old 88 GMC. The passenger side of that truck was like brand new as in it was never used but the window switch on that door was the culprit. It went bad and caused both doors to act up.
The bad switch went soft. I mean when I pushed it it had a weak spring feeling in it. Anyway I hope yours is as easy to fix.
