homemade fan shroud
 

in the process of making my own. I had a ebay laser cut one. only covered 80% of the core.
wasn't really that happy with it.
I went to my local metal supplier and just bought some .062 aluminum sheet.

use a harbor freight bench brake to bend it. its 1'' thick. cover 100% of the core now.

made one mistake though. that rubber flap doesn't close all the way. I thought 1/6" thick rubber should have worked. nope!.. little still. im going to plug that up later.
im having someone make me overflow can for that side of the shroud. it will match that whole upper to mid side of the shroud.

ill paint it silver and the top bracket black.

anyways.. just throwing this out there.

fan forces the air through the big hole. kinda a vacuum effect. works well. just gotta ad my gaskets and paint it. onlt cost me 23 bucks for the material.

Larry, in other words, without the shroud a lot air moved by the fan does not go through the radiator? I have a '65 C10. Seems to have a rather small clutch fan. I have not had any issues with cooling, but I have noticed a lot of guys putting in such shrouds. I was never sure why. -Alden

kinda, without the shroud. air doesn't move as much around the outside of the fan. pose to it be forces at a high rate through that hole.

co. bought shrouds are like 100 to 175 bucks. ouch!

Nice Job. I was thinking about doing something similar, but what is the rubber flap for?

The rubber is suppose to allow even more air pass whenever your driving at a high rate of speed and the Fan opening isnt cutting it. I've been messing with one lately but I only had mild steel in the garage. Aluminum next.
