14 Bolt ID question
 
Purchased a 14 Bolt supposedly from a 75 truck

The spring perches are narrower on this one vs the one in my 73.

Here are the #'s I've gotten from them :

73 14-Bolt shows from the flange plate at the end of the housing to the pin center line for the leaf springs at 6-1/2" and 43" spring center (pin) to spring center (pin)

Newly purchased 14-Bolt shows from the flange plate at the end of the housing to the pin center line for the leaf springs at 7-1/2" and 40"

What truck application does this newly purchased 14-Bolt come from?

40.5 inch is the pad width from a 1 ton. 42.5 is the pad width from a 3/4 ton which is also the same for a 1/2 ton. To put a 1 ton 14 bolt under a 3/4 or half ton (blazer/suburban) you have to cut the spring pads off and move them out to the correct width.

The wms (wheel mounting surface width) varies depending on the application. I stole this from another thread:

GM Dana 60 front (single wheel) ...................69"
GM Dana 60 front (dual rear wheel) ................77" ; +4" on each side vs single wheel
GM 14 Bolt rear FF (single wheel) .................67"
GM 14 Bolt rear FF (dual wheel)....................63"
GM 14 Bolt rear SemiF (single wheel) ..............66"
GM Dana 44 Front (single wheel) ...................69" 8-lug; 67" 6-lug
GM 10 bolt front (single wheel) ...................69" 8-lug; 67" 6-lug
GM 14 Bolt rear (Van single wheel) ................70"
GM 12 and 10 bolt rear.............................64"
GM 14 bolt FF late model ....... depends on vehicle (truck, cube, drum, disc, ring gear)
GM 14 bolt SF late model ....... depends on vehicle (truck or van or SSR)

Thanx very much with this response.

Would you guess that this 1-ton axle was from a dual rear wheel assembly?

Measure side to side from each wheel mounting surface. If it's 63" it is from a dually, if it's 67" it is from a single wheel one ton, and if it's 70" it is from a van.

As I recall, there are also 2 types of spindles for the early 14B so there's some possibility to change the WMS distance depending on which style you have. From the above 63" and 67" it seems that the different spindles are offset by 2 inches each.

I should have said hub, not spindle...
