OT: Post lift for garage
 

Looking at buying a lift for my garage. Not sure about 2 post vs 4 post. I see the benefit of both.

Anyone have a 2 post lift and have successfully gotten a lowered AD truck on it? Anyone have an experience or suggestions? This is purely for work and not storage.

Looking at the bend pak hd-9 4 post or maxjax 2 post.

I have a mid rise, best investment i ever made, allows me to work all the way around, with no posts . I even put it in the paint room when i spray. Rockers and under front bumpers are easy to reach.
Works great when removing front frames, or use it to replace springs and rear ends.
Lifts to 40 inches. I can sit on a low stool under the car.

I'm concerned with trying to get the arms on frame with the truck sitting so low. Any insight?

I just did a corvette, no problem, but i havehad to put 2x4s down alongside the lift to drive on so the car was a little higher. Just to get the pads on the arms.

Plus, its very portable.

I've been in more than one shop that had 2x6 or 8 planks cut so that they could get low cars up enough to swing the hoist arms under lowered rigs.

I've also seen guys have to use similar planks to cut the approach angle on four posts for lowered rigs.

Both have advantages and disadvantages. The 4 posts are great if you have the cross pieces and jacks to raise the car to pull the wheels. Pretty much just for under the car work if you don't. They do work great for increasing parking space though as you can put panels across the hoist so oil doesn't drip on the cars below.

The 2 posts take more care putting the rig on both for balance and for stability but give you a clear run under most of the vehicle.

I installed a 2 post in April, love it makes things much faster. For ground clearance my minimum situation is 3 3/4 (Cobra kit) I can do that without boards, but it is a push to get the pads under. The biggest issue with an AD would be the running boards as the arms are at like 4 1/2 inches. Mine,s a Derek Weaver 9K and I would buy from then again. As a matter of fact, I will buy a 4 post post from them in a couple of years after I raise the roof 6 foot.

I did some measuring today and it looks like it I I'll require at least a 6" pad extension to reach the frame and clear the running boards. Fortunately it's readily accessible.

I wish I had a lift when I did my factory five cobra. The world would have been a different color!

I have a Whip brand 2 post, 9K, made in Texas, but they're all about the same. Mine has a support across the top and not one on the floor so I can drive the truck in with no problem. The rear pads fit with the small spacers but I have to put a floor jack under the front cross member of the clip to get the fronts where I need them and use the longest extensions to clear the rocker panels and the headers. Minor inconvenience with the aluminum jack from HF and my truck sits pretty low. Next to the beer refrigerator, the best tool I ever put in the shop.

truk is about 5.5'' off the ground, i have four 5 inch 4x4 blocks to lay on the pads of our 2 post lifts to get to the frame

we do a lot of lowered cars at the shop, i made up a double stack of 2x10 approx 2 feet long to drive the cars onto
i taper cut the ends to ramp both ends

Get one of each like I have. My truck is 4.5 inches off the ground and can get it on both my 4 post and 2 post lifts.
