Look what I bought & drug home today from Knoxville TN today. Bought it from a board member and he & his son were super helpful loading this Monster onto the trailer on a crazy narrow curvy road road after getting it down a STEEP narrow curvy driveway (took a 1-1/2hrs to load it with 4 guys and a trailer mounted winch.

1967 Chevy C30 Conversion motorhome. Original protecto plate shows it was sold in Los Angeles in May of 1967 after the conversion was completed by a coach company there in southern Cali.

And here are 2 pics while loading this afternoon. This is one super heavy beast...but it is really intact mostly!

Seller deleted the link to the pics from 2005 :(. I'll get some more pics posted this weekend...

One more pic from today...pay attention to how narrow the road is...& understand that the right "shoulder" is a 75' cliff. Scary stuff!!!

I love that camper. I thought about it too, but there isn't any room for another project here.

how bad was the inside trashed?

I am so glad that you made it home safely and can start the project on flat ground. My son and I were glad to help because we are truck guys and didn't want to see this camper go to anybody other than a member.

To answer the question on the inside, it's pretty badly gone as the thieves took everything metal out to recycle for their drug-money.. (ARGH!!) anyway, it was wonderful meeting you Ed and good luck with the project.

Re: '67 C30 Protecto plate camper conversion

Thanks Brian! Let me know if I can help with your sons upcoming project too.

Yeah, the inside is rough, but a little wood work, some new appliances and Flooring and that part should be good. The physical structure is totally intact and the important vintage pieces are all still there...i.e. Propane interior lanterns, trim pieces etc.

My biggest hurdle is really going to be what I want to do with the drivetrain...I'm thinking a diesel/OD trans combo would be the best for power & economy.

The suspension & brakes are all pretty trick... 4-wheel disc, boxed trailing arms & whopper Goodyear airbags out back & newer (read '73 up) front suspension pieces.

I'm going to change all the fluids & filters, flush the coolant and try to get her fired up this weekend. There will also be a bath and an inventory of what's there &/or missing. Then the project will begin. Just what I needed, another project.

What? The brakes beefy but after sitting for 5 years they are also spotty?

HA HA..

If only there was a picture of my Tahoe skidding backwards down that hill with you all "puckered up in the Camper" and me all "puckered up in the tahoe" with both our feed smashed thru the floorboards trying to stop.. THAT would be funny, it was scary as hell and I'm so glad she finally slowed down.

Brian

Fear not! I'll have some pics to post this weekend.

My buddy & I got this Chubby beast off the trailer today... That took another 1hr. The brakes on it are WEAK. I'll start trying to get a plan of attack. I've been getting some ?'s about parting it out. I don't think that's an option here, but it's a pretty serious project to get it back to functional.

It cleaned up really well, considering I just scrubbed it with a push broom with soap on it and a garden hose... But it still took 3 hours. I totally missed above the awning... DaNg!

Now I've got to find some directions for this Holley ProJection so I can try and get this beast cranked. I'm contemplating just pulling it off for now and slapping a carb on there just to get this Heifer cranked and hopefully able to move under it's own power, it's way to heavy to have to drag around.

I've got to find another 67-68 hood so I can replace this Top Fuel thing that's on there now...It's aweful...can't even see over it from the drivers seat...

You can see Walt (1968 SWB), just the nose of Booger peaking out of the garage, and the tail of my 1993 Feature Car Mustang in the background. My GMC driver lives under a carport... priorities ;)
