sound deadening mat or insulation inside doors
 

Has anyone tried putting stick on sound deadening mat or insulation inside there doors? My main concern is rain water getting on it from the windows.

I've done my doors. Gives the doors a nice solid feeling now. Not so worried about the rain affecting as I live in CA and apparently it's never going to rain here again! (??)

I only did a small section of the door where the metal flairs out with the body curv. Not much chance of water getting to it. I think the watter will follow the windows.... I did assure the drain holes were clear and used a spray undercoating down in the bottom of the doors to help prevent rust...

I too did the outer door skins, used the peel and stick stuff from L.M.C. It worked so well I went ahead and did my floor too. With regard to rain, I don't see it getting in there too easily on the back of the doorskin but....I too live in CA so it's a non-issue.

I did the inside of the door skin with be-cool (form lmc, summit, etc.) and i also did the backs of the door panels since they're easy to do.

I've not used it but in my research for a sound deadening / heat shield product I ran across one that claims to prevent condensation and does not hold moisture.

Its called EZ Cool Automotive Insulation.

there is also a spray in, called lizard skin you might want to look in to that as-well.

For doors you want a butyl peel & stick type sound deadener like Dynamat, Second Skin Damplifer, etc. They have a layer of butyl rubber and a layer of aluminum and if installed right will not be able to trap moisture. The butyl damps vibration of the panel reducing noise transfer, and the aluminum provides both protection for the butyl and some heat transfer protection.

I've used damplifier on a few vehicles now and always been happy with it. A 1' x 1' square in the middle of the outer door panel with reduce the 'tinny' sound of doors by an impressive degree, more will end up with them sounding like bank vault doors. My plans for the truck once the door rust is fixed is a 1'x1' square on the lower outer skin and a small piece on the upper inner skin by the door handle, then cover the entire inside of the removal inner panel(and possible one piece on the lower inner door panel depending on access).

(the grey stuff is a plastic based carpet padding from lowes that won't rot if it gets damp like jute will)

And here is the damplifier installed in the cab of my truck(the newer version of it is black instead of shiny). Sadly I'm now replacing the cab so I'll have to do this all over again.
