1972 C20 Ho52 Rearend

I'd like to know if anyone knows if there's a direct replacement for my HO52 rear differential on my 3/4 1972 C20. It looks like the GM 14bolt came out in '73 and Dana 60s were used as well. From what I've read the HO52s are outdated and parts aren't available such as gears and lockars. Can anyone help?

I pulled the HO52 out of my 72 C20 coil spring truck and replaced with a dana 60 to get the 3.54 gears. I found out that 71-72 used a larger wheel stud and had to find a set of hubs off of a 71 and drill the drums out for the larger studs. I also had to shorten my driveline.

I think both the Dana 60 and the Eaton were used, so the Dana 60 should be a viable option.

Just recently i had to source all the breaks and bearings for my HO52....it took me a while to source everything.. Considered doing a swap ..but waiting on parts to arrive was a better option for me than modifying drive lines and stuff.. .

strangeworld (OP) welcome to the board. Yes, some parts are hard to find for your HO52, but just case it's in good working order, and unless you really want taller gears or a limited-slip, don't be too quick to change it out. Those things are extremely tough & durable.

No problem having the HO52 in my 72 K20 rebuilt (in Albuquerque) and glad I didn't swap it for another. NoSPIN carriers can be located...

If it's in good working order I'd just leave it alone. The Dana 60 is a very durable rear end as well, lots of rock crawlers swap them into Jeeps.
