what to do with my (her) rear end??
 

ok so they daughter and i are at the point of changing her rear end out in her '66.

going from a 3/4 ton axle to a '87 10 bolt.

my question is how do i deal with the different size of axle tubes? as the U-bolts go through the trailing arms close to the axle in it now, the 10 bolt is alot smaller tube... how will this work? it seems like it will be very sloppy? after welding new axle perches on and re-bolting them down with new U-bolts will this be sufficiant enough?? just seems like there will be alot of room between the U-bolts and the "new '87" tubes??

anybody done this and have some answers for me (and her)?
she thinks i know everything but you guys have helped me about 85% of the decisions i've made on hers and mine!!:chevy::metal:

I don't think it will be an issue. You are still holding downward on it and the perches are welded setting your foward and back position. I wouldn't give it a second thought.

Does this tailgate make my rearend look fat? lol. As long as she thinks it's all your smarts, we won't tell. I don't think it's an issue either. It's all clamping pressure, I don't think it will go anywhere. Get it all in and set up then take it out and launch it a couple times. Check everything out, if it all looks good, it's good to go.

The trailing arm mount itself will have holes for the U-bolt that are the same center to center as the holes in the trailing arms (at least the ones I make are). So once the U-bolt is inserted, and tightened down, the differential isn't going anywhere.

thanks guys, i was thinking the same "clamping" ideas and with the pads welded on it SHOULDN'T slip around. but was second guessing myself....again. thats why i read this site!!:chevy::metal:
