What would you do?

I saw one of the most awful things. This guy was "restoring" a 66 SWB step BBW for a veterinarian. Orignal V8/auto truck. I picked out about 9 different things from 20 feet away that were wrong and when I walked up to it, I could see the starts to a "repair" in the eyebrow.

There was a hole as big as my fist and in it was a wad of aluminum windows screen and he was starting to literally scoop bondo over it.

The vet is only about 3 blocks from his shop and he is supposedly paying the guy 9 grand to restore it because it was his father's who was the original owner.

What should I do? I don't really know the vet but it just eats at me what this jerk is doing.

BTW, I acted like I was admiring the truck but, he wouldn't let me take a picture of it. I wonder why?

I would have to go tell the vet what you saw and hopefully prevent any further shoddy repairs .I would want someone to do the same for me.

x2

If you don't want to get involved you could just send or drop a note off to his office suggesting that he check on his "restoration".

Re: What would you do?

I would snitch on him in a second! 9K is a lot of money to throw away on work that will have to be done again in a couple of years. Would you want someone to tell you? I would and I would spread the word about the guy who was doing the "work" to save others the pain.

I wouldn't drop a dime on the dude. I would drop the entire dollar on him. Screen and bondo won't be there long, no reason for such work.

Re: What would you do?

I would definitely let the guy know, even if you just drop a note, that's unacceptable.

Let him know....if it was mine I'd hope someone would tell me. Its his $ and he needs to make the call on what to do.

I have seen $10,000 paint jobs sent back. Just give the guy a heads up.

I'd let him know too. Then it's up to him whether he listens or not.

Re: What would you do?

OK, I agree. I would want someone to tell me. I figure the shop owner won't know who told on him anyhow. (these dudes around this area will shoot ya if you cause them trouble)

I think I will write a note describing the issues with the "restoration" and drop it off to the vet.

Thanks guys!

LOL! That's pretty sad when window screen is a step up!

I agree...let they guy know. Stuff like this needs to be addressed. At the Saw Shop I work at..there's no such thing as a P*SS poor job.....and if one of us mechanics does one...either we get fired..or a serious chew out. lol Of course the guy wouldn't want you to take a picture! You'd be showing what he's trying to hide! LOL!

The old Bondo kits had screen in the kit. Old timers also would remember that Black Magic never really dried.

If you really want to remain anonymous, you could put the letter in the mail with no return address.

I know someone who got burned in a bodywork deal. He didn't want to pay the big bucks but wanted it to be done. Hired a "sidework" guy and now it's cracking and falling out. Is the hack in this case a real shop? If so the Better Business Bureau should be notified. If it's not a real shop and your information regarding their "contract" is second hand, you might tell the veterinarian what you saw, but I personally would stay out of a sideline buisness deal. You don't want to get caught up in any kind of tweeked out backwoods autobody b.s.

I would have the restoration guy neutered by the vet ! That seems fair.

I dropped a note off last night.

It's a business actually. But it's listed as a used tire store.

Agreed, you did the right thing. I am a believer that good things happen to people who do good things.
