New Rims & Tires Amoung Several Things
5 Attachment(s)
So, I got the truck about a month & half ago and before I could really take it out and drive it I knew I needed to change the tires. The tires on the truck were pretty much new (looking) BF Goodrich T/A's all the way around, but they were thirty plus years old and frankly unsafe. After driving the truck on just a few short trips the two front tires developed bulges in the tread some 4 inches long and three inches wide. So I had to order new rubber and decided to update the wheels from the late 70's era that were on the truck. I selected Torq Thrust II's, but with the PVD Black finish. Front tires: 275/60/15 & rears: 295/50/15. I've also had time to wax the truck and I added a blue accent color to the chrome trim to tie into the interior color. I'm also considering a lowering kit; probably a 3/4 as well, but I'm torn on doing it or not.....Opinions?? :bo2:

Truck looks great with the new wheels and still has that 70's vibe. What are your concerns about lowering the truck? Considering the backspace on the rear wheels(looks to be about 4in) and the tire size on the front I wouldnt go more than 2.5/4in(spindles and hangers/shackles) drop due to rubbing issues. Personally I would drop it just to close up some of the fender to tire gap.

Well, I prefer the old rims ;)

Front tires = 28" tall.
Rear tires = 26.6" tall. Sorry.... that difference is obvious in the pics & just does not look good visually. Do the 275's all around or use them in the back w/ some 245's or 255-60's in front. |

Thanks everyone for the responses! J Knight you asked about the concerns about lowering the truck. Mine surround the more permanent change(s) IE: changing the rear hangers. Most everything else is reversible if one wanted; springs, spindles etc., but those hangers have to have rivets or whatever mounts them ground down and removed. So it's kind of a more non reversible change.

Just like cutting holes for door speakers.... it can be reversed. |
Re: New Rims & Tires Amoung Several Things
Look online for rear drop leafs. They make a 4" drop leaf. I have used them on two or three trucks. Totally reversible and you get to keep the riveted spring mounts.

I like it much better before. Black on black is just sexy. Not saying it doesn't look good now, but we have some different tastes I guess. Either way, nice truck!
