Parking brake cable routing
 

Anyone got a picture of the parking brake cable routing? My Sub is missing the equalizer rod that on the passenger side. What does it connect to? This is the rod that is on the opposite side of the front cable adjuster rod.

Using photoshop I lightened up your first picture and can see that the rod hooks through a hole in the frame on the right hand side. Once the LMC parts come in it shouldn't be tough to figure out which hole.

This should help. Tape "0" datum is the front of the frame rail. First hook hole (long one ) is at 77 1/2 " . Next one is at 96" . Again ,this is a 4 x 4 but I see no reason that it would be different on 2 WD. Hope this helps.

I can say for certain that the rear cables listed in the LMC catalog are correct for a 4WD. They match the originals perfectly.

Something weird in your picture Franks 72 your cable guides are bolted to the inside TOP of the frame rail. On my 70 they were bolted in bottom channel.

Cant explain the difference. This was a Canadian truck?
My second hook is not bolted just hooks on the frame rail the same as the front.
Perhaps they changed something in the 72 4X4 ?

my 72 K20 pigtails were located on the top of the frame rail and were not bolted. The hook on the end of the pigtail just went through the hole and was held in place with the tension of the cable.

Took a chance on the LMC cables and they were a perfect match to what was on the truck. Now the problem is that the ones I took off might have been wrong! I found the holes to mount the rear cable brackets on the top of the frame rail. My brackets were mounted on the bottom of the frame rail a few inches back. To clear the frame bracket rivets, the brackets had 1/2" long spacers. The new (and old) brake cables are too short to allow mounting on the top of the frame in the original holes.

The top photo is one of Lock Doc's from 2011 and the bottom is from my truck.

Yep. That was my guess too. Only thing is, it was rigged before I bought it in the early 80's or I don't remember rigging it!

This thread has been extremely helpful, I was wondering if anyone had pictures of how the front cable is routed and secured on a 4WD. I have a 72 K10 and the previous owner had rigged it with a 2 wheel drive front cable that was not secured and they fabricated a bracket to hold it under the truck. I got new cables from Inline Tube and would like to get it install correctly.

Our truck is a 1970 K/10 longbed as it sits right now. When we bought it, prev owner has cable from inside cab coiled up on LF fender. Has cables from brakes dead ended-just kinda hanging there.
I'm looking at LMC and ordering "Intercable Longed 4WD", "Park Brake Cable Guide Kit", and a "Park Brake Cable Grommet".

Anything else I need?

This thread is most helpful as I am not sure exactly the routing needed.

Anyone have more words of wisdom or more pictures for a newbie?
