Stereo ideas.

I've got a 1986 Silverado and I want to put some good tunes in it.

I've tried the kick plate modular formed panels in my other truck and wasn't inpressed. All the sound was lost in the floorboard.

Tell me what y'all have done to get THE sound in our trucks.

Mids, highs, bass...I want it all.

Speaker location and mods.:metal:

You tried these and didn't like them?

Are you talking about the Q-logic kick panels?

in my truck I have a kenwood cd/mp3 deck to an amp dedicated to 2 6.5" polk audio mids/tweeters and another powerful amp pushing 2 8" MTX subs behind the seat, and that setup pumps pretty hard.. it sounds GOOD even in a loud truck. And its a very mild setup, really.. Id like to go with 2 10" mtx subs, or even 3 if I had the room but I dont, and some boston acoustics high end 6.5" mids in the kickpanels.. maybe with a little more power to them, and if that didnt do it, maybe some 4x10s in that stock location behind the seat in the 80's model trucks... They key is having good power to your drivers and using quality components... I like kenwood, alpine, mtx, etc but opinions will differ greatly. thats my 2 cents.

My 91 Burb has 2 6.5" MBQuart coax speakers in custom kick panels made of HDF, fiberglass and Bondo. They are covered in vinyl to match the interior color. I have JL Audio coax speakers in the dash (stock locations) running off the head unit. I keep trying different subs and locations but now I've got one Kicker Solobaric 12" in a sealed enclosure. I am running everything off a Viper 1100.5, which is a 5 channel amp with lots of good power.
My 1984 C-10 had 2 10" Image Dynamics subs mounted in a sealed enclosure behind the seat with two Xtant amps. I only ran Rockford Power series coax speakers in the dash locations--no kick panels or anything. Sounded OK, not great.
I still have the box with subs if anyone is interested. Prolly way too heavy to ship but who knows?!

Those are the ones.

I had Infinity 5 1/4" seperates in the kicks, Infinity 6x9 in the factory locatoins behind the seat, 2 - 8" Bazooka tubes, Alpine head unit, MTX cross over and 2 Rockford Fosgate amps.

I was looking for some mid bass up front and ever got it.

My system is a litte rag-tag right now but it works. 160 watt Sony deck, 3 1/2" with bass blockers in dash, OLD OLD Pioneer "preformed" 4" w/ tweeters(are where the stock 4X10s were), 2 MTX 8" subs, & a Autotek 300 watt amp. What I want to do it get a deck that plays MP3s, 6X9s where the preforms are, 300 watt amp for 6X9s, 2 10" subs, 1000 watt amp for subs. I am going to have custom inclosures made for the 6X9s and subs.

You can take the stock 4x10 frames and swap sides, cut them out to 6x9 and and use them. I packed insullation behind them.

There is more room back there than you would believe.

Come on guys, I know someone out there has done something extreme with your stereo.

I've got two of these behind my seat.

I have two amps under the armrest of the console, one powers the two subs, one powers the speakers in my Q-logic kick panels.

Works for me. :)

What you got in the kick panels?

Are you satisfied with the sound quality from them?

swervin ervin 08-11-2003 10:34 PM

I have Rockford Fosgate FNX2406U FanaticX 6" midrange/bass speakers in the kick panels, along with some old tweeters I had left from a Cerwin Vega SS-4.2 component set.

In the box I built behind the seat is the two Sony XS-L1236 subwoofers. I also put two Radio Shack 3 3/4" tweeters in the upper corners. That's all the speakers I have in the truck. It will blow you away.

The amp for the subs/tweeters is a Crunch P2200 rated at 200 watts x 2 @ 4 ohms. The amp for the front kick panel speakers is a Pioneer GM-X552 rated at 50 watts x 2 @ 4 ohms.

I don't use the two subs as strictly subs. I have the switch on the amp set to just regular power, not sub only. It was way too much set at the sub level for me. I do have old ears you know. :)

Oh, my head unit is a Pioneer DEH-P8400MP MP3 receiver.

I'm well satisfied with my setup.

Mike
