Hey folks.
Newbie here, but not to forums in general. I also attached a pic of my 1953 that doesn't leave the garage much :)

I have found a nice 1969 for sale, just looking to see what it might be worth and also a couple of questions. Here are some facts:

1. Remanuf 250 & 3-speed, brand new carb and radiator.

2. It was originally a column shift, but broke off so it was converted to a floor shift. Is there a factory style floor shifter that would work here? I don't like the short throw.

3. Runs and drives very well. Small issue with point settings which cause backfire, but i think it's very easy to fix.

4. I'm thinking about buying it, local back yard paint job, original turquoise with white top, black wheels, white hubcaps, clean up and paint interior.

5. Very solid, slight rust around the edges. Floors solid, little rust through on firewall, front fender bottoms. Nothing bondo can't hide :)

Welcome to the 67-72 side... well, potentially at least! The truck doesn't look bad. While there's patches for everything rusty, spend some more time examining the floorboards, firewall, window channel, rockers and kick panels carefully. Also around the heater box lip that's hidden can hide rust. Overall it looks like an okay pickup. The rubber fuel line is a little "scary" but no worries!

Looks like its got project potential. Body appears straight from pix. I like the wood planks in the bed. Nice 'patina' going.
As far as the tranny -- there are 3 options: 1] weld an extension onto the shift lever. There is no factory floor shifter for that Saginaw 3-Speed, [that I know of]. 2] Restore the factory column shifter. 3] Replace the saginaw with a Muncie 4-speed SM465 [w/granny gear] --( or other tranny -- 5-speed, OD, etc.)
You are possibly real familiar with points since you have a very nice '53.
I went to Pertronix Ignitor II after running points for ~35 years. I like it.
Also I have an Offy 4-Bbl intake, Clifford headers and Edelbrock 1404 500 CFM 4 Bbl carb on the L6 292 in my '68 C/10 Stepside.

Welcome, there are alot of helpful members here, you'll have no problem with answers with your problems. as far as the short throw on the shifter, you can move the shifter rods on the tranny end to holes further away from where they're bolted to the tranny.( hopefully it has multi-hole arms) That will give you a longer throw. As far as what its worth is all up to what you feel comfortable paying for it. By the way, nice 53, ( i'm partial to 53, the year I was born);)

Well, I wasn't going to mention anything about price, but I may have the chance to pick it up for $600-$800.

The window channels and floors seem very solid. There is some rust-out at the top of the firewall, small amount along the rockers and kick panels, but again, it's minimal. I stomped my feet really hard against the floor and door edges and it was solid. Truck has been in Mississippi its entire life, just sat outside for a long time.

I like the patina, but can't help but want to fill it with bondo and put a cheap coat of paint on it. I don't have the time or money to restore it like the '53. The '53 was a 77,000-mile Nevada truck, all numbers matching. It's a sweetie :)

I would also look to change out the point system to an electronic system. This doesn't seem too difficult, but don't really know much about it. I'll check out the Pertronix Ignitor II ...

Hey, welcome to this forum! I'm just up the road from you.
For that price I say get it! Anything that is running & drivable for under $1k is a deal in my book. Cause if you don't then I'll have to talk myself out of going & getting it :lol: That rust on the firewall looks no good, but then again who cares it would be cool to be cleaned up a little & just hammer around town in for that price.

Yea, I thought that rust on the firewall was a little odd, you can see into the cab, but it only looks like it is in 1 spot. Up under the firewall is all solid.

If I bought it, it would probably never leave Starkville, and would just sit in my back yard 99% of the time.

Seriously, PM me if you don't get this truck...like I really need to drag home more projects for me & my husband. Although, he did get a new gun last week & I was just saying to him that means I may have to drag home some ole junky truck parts...so why not just a complete truck!

I think it is a great truck for the money. I would put in a T-5, but that is because I have two laying in the floor. I already have three of them that I'm building so I probably wouldn't even notice one more.Oh and welcome to the board from across the river. Jim

At the price you mention, get it. I don't think we're supposed to guess at valuations but if it runs it's worth what you said.

Pertronix is a great idea, just stick with a II and don't get a III if you plan to run a tach. I'm in the middle of that goat rodeo right now.

We have a local landscaper drives almost this same truck.

Ref. 3] Could be a timing issue. Distributor needs to be rotated more towards Advance.
4] That's easily $800 worth of parts. If it runs, you're ahead.

For $800 go for it. That firewall rust would scare the heck out of me, but not at $800.



When someone is asking WIW about a truck/part they want to buy it's all good. It doesn't matter if they are a subscriber or not.

I wouldn't hesitate at that price.

Could have a lot of fun tinkering with it and cleaning it up a little and easily get your money back plus down the road if you wanted.

The guy that owns it bought it from the original owner, he said the owner that bought it new used it as their "family garden truck", hauling stuff just for around their house. It's very evident that this truck has not been used for real work, it is very solid and tight. Sits up straight, nothing sags or is loose, doors close solid and straight.

I cranked it up cold, it had been sitting for 2 weeks. Fired up without hesitation, no smoke, and was quiet as a sewing machine. Only issue was when you revved it, it skipped, and when you revved it high, it back fired really bad. I can tell it would be a sweet running truck, not sure if the points are set right. It's obviously something small. No knocking, no weird sounds. The motor and transmission were replaced with factory remanufactured replacements about 10 years ago, and not driven much since.

I may try and get it this weekend. The owner said he was going to look for a different shop in town that could get it tuned right.

Yes, I may be able to find a junkyard to pull a couple of parts off of.

Thank you for pointing out the rubber fuel line, I noticed that but didn't give much thought to it. I would get that replaced with a steel line ASAP.
