PB stage 2 rear basic bags

Hi
Im in the middle of installing the Porterbuilt stage 1 front and stage 2 rear basic kit to my 69 C10 and have just realised i didnt receive the cups for the rear bags. Do i have to run these cups? i have seen somewhere on here where someone has just mounted the top of the bag to the bottom of the c-notch, i just cant seem to find the thread again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

regards
JI

You don't have to use the upper cups, but does make things a little easier. If not using the cups, you will have to drill the notch for the bag mounting and airline to pass through.

I tried searching myself to see if I can find a thread, but didn't come up with anything.

I'm not using the cups either. Mounted the bags to the notch like Travis suggested. Required drilling a big hole for the airline fitting, but brings your truck a little closer to the ground.

Thanks guys.

Matt do you have a pic of the top of the bag so I can see the location of your holes?

This is the only picture I have from above and you can just barely see one of the mounting bolts. I'll try to get another picture for you this weekend.

Yes, if you dont use the cup you'll be drilling three holes. Two for mounting the air bag and a larger one for the airline fitting to pass thru. I drilled mine for use without the cups but then used the cups in case I want to remove them. I took masking tape and covered the top of the bag with a thick layer and shaded where the holes in the top were. Then stuck it to the frame and drilled.
With the cup you don't have to drill. The cup mounts to the top of the airbag with two bolts and then there is a long stud which screws into the top of the cup which passes thru a hole already in the frame where the upper spring retainer cup use to be.
If you look at some of my old posts you will see I used the exact kit , (2 stage basic in rear, stage 1 in front ) and it might answer some questions you have. If you let Porterbuilt know your cups are missing I'm sure they'll send you some. They have great service.

Thanks 1moretime.

I got the kit from Pro performance so maybe Travis can let me know what they can do about the missing cups. For now I'm not going to use them as I'm ready to mount the bags and as I'm in Australia I cant wait to receive the cups.

These aren't great pictures, but it's what I can do with the bed on the truck. The mounting holes are centered on the frame rail and run front and back (not enough room for side to side). The air fitting is on the inside side of the frame.

It's kind of hard to see the mounting bolts because of the brake line, fuel line and power wire, but you can see them some in these pictures.

The air fitting hole is big and you have to drill through two sections of the frame and the notch. Get some good bits. Good luck!

Pardon the dust & dirt!

Not to beat a dead horse but this is the thread I referenced a lot from, good pics in this thread:

I'm not a fan of horses anyway.

Just a quick question while installing airbags, can the airbag take the full weight of the diff when raising the truck on a hoist, or should they be supported at all times?

The axle needs to be supported. The shocks usually limit the travel so the bags don't stretch and tear. You can use a ratchet strap or other temporary support if you don't have proper length shocks on it right now.

Without starting another thread can anyone help with a controller issue?

I decided to upgrade the Avis controller with an accuair switchspeed type but I have already wired up the compressors and relays with the manual pressure switch provided in the kit. I will eventually run the accuair ps but for the moment can I wire up the controller without having to rewire everything?
