16.5 tires - I need - can't find

I need 16.5 tires that are great for traction on dry pavement. When I restored my 71' I built the engine up and it's much stronger that I expected. So, I been taking it to the strip a few times, but I need tires badly. Don't have the money to change to 16" wheels and tires. Just need to find 2, 16.5 tires about 31-32 inches tall that are for pavement, not mud and snow. I've looked on tirerack.com and really didn't see what fits my purpose. Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to the Board! Try Sears. They have a good selection of truck tires with highway tread. The traction won't be very good though,, as these tend to be of a hard compound. There's a bunch of members out your way. Someones got to have some factory 16's pretty cheap. Tire store take-off's are an option too. I'm assuming they're 8 lug?

STBR, welcome to the group from soggy Columbus!
The 16.5s are getting hard to find, and getting pretty expensive to obtain. I'll agree with jhkns about sears, that is where I almost bought my last set, but in reality, if you can get your hands on some 16 inch rims, you'd be way ahead.
I'll also second the statement about 16.5s being a hard tire. My old Longhorn would spin the right rear for days, even when it had the dog 300,000 mile engine in it. (Hmmm, I wonder how I spun those rod bearings?;) )
16s are a bit harder to find than I had thought. Esp if you don't like the silver things with the centercap held on by the plastic lug nut covers. (I hate them) I don't know what he got them off of, but another board member from Illinois just hooked me up with 4 steel wheel 16 inchers with great tread.
I gave him my 2 good 16.5s so he'd have a couple spares. All I have left is a couple bias ply tires here...great for burnouts though. heh heh heh
