L + 1 + 2 + 3 = Three Speed or Four
1 Attachment(s)
Hi all, new guy here trying to figure out Ford math. Recently test drove a '79 manual with the following on the shifter knob on the floor:
L..2 ---N-- 1..3..R Logic would dictate that be a Three Speed, but my Mopar buddy says it's Ford speak for Four speed, what say you? |
Re: L + 1 + 2 + 3 = Three Speed or Four
Four forward gears ='s 4 speed
|
Re: L + 1 + 2 + 3 = Three Speed or Four
4 speed since there are 4 forward gears.
Edit: Randy hit the post button a few seconds before me and beat me to it. Lol |
Re: L + 1 + 2 + 3 = Three Speed or Four
IMO, 4 speed. Technically L is a speed, though one not used very much.
Basically, what ever you feel like. I've heard them described as 4 speeds, and 3 speed with a granny low. Don't recall what the official GM designation was. Damn, you both posted while I was typing. lol |
Re: L + 1 + 2 + 3 = Three Speed or Four
My Ford, 89 F150 4x4. has the Borg Warner T18 tranny. Its a 4 speed, with 1st gear being granny low.
I've heard people call them 4 speeds. I've heard people call them a 4 speed with granny low. I've heard a 3 speed plus granny low. Mind you...my opinion its a 4 speed with granny low because you have 4 forward gears. |
Re: L + 1 + 2 + 3 = Three Speed or Four
4 speed of course
|
Re: L + 1 + 2 + 3 = Three Speed or Four

Re: L + 1 + 2 + 3 = Three Speed or Four
