Install Trasnfer case

Attachment 1297186HI guys,
Quick question.
I am trying to get a transfer case installed into my 72 k5 4x4.
the motor and trans are installed already, The transfer case is mounted to a cross member now sitting on the ground.

What is the easiest way to get in installed?
I have tried a trans jack, but it still seams awkward and heavier on oneside.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

thanks

looks like a np203 from here. they are very heavy, best way is with some help. i used just a floor jack and made a custom cradle, and it was a pain. I would deferentially get a good trans jack to make it easy.

even then, it was only a one time use because it broke after i used it.

I rented a trans jack and made a similar cradle. Floor jack gets it up, but trans jack gives you the side and front to back fine tune adjustment, a lot easier than horsing 250# around. I had my floor pan out (59 truck) so had easy access from the top too.

Thanks guys, I did make something last night and was able to get it on to the trans jack. I will attempt the install this afternoon when I get home from work.

Are there any gotchas when trying to install it? Is it as easy as jack up and bolt in?

thanks,
John

Do the spline counts match up ? There are a few different set-ups.

10 spline
27 spline
32 spline

If so you may just need to get the alignment correct, and the splines lined up correctly. It's no fun horsing that heavy beast around under a truck !

Don’t forget the gasket or RTV between the case and trans adaptor… I forgot the gasket and had to pull the case back down.

By the way, what case and trans are you putting together?

Not to hijack...but i just posted this question. I have an np203 and t350 that i just put fluid in after being apart for several years and fluid is leaking from the trans adaptor plate. Does this mean i need to tear it apart and put rtv between the plate and trans? son of a .....
