AN Fitting Questions
I see some people using AN fittings and braided hoses in the engine compartment. In looking at Summt & Jeg catalogs they look nice and expensive. How do they work? Do you need clamps to secure the hoses into the fittings or is there some sort of retainer built inside.

Well.........The best one's are sweged on but not to many people have the hydraulic crimp tool to do that so every one uses the self ancoring one's.
The fitting has a collar that slip's over the hose and the other half of the fitting is insetred into the hose and collar and threaded togeather thus applying a compression type ancoring system that's good for up too 3000psi if accomplished correctly. |
My tranny cooler hoses and fuel hose is full AN fittings. No special tool needed to put them together. You are right, they are expensive, as is the stainless hose.
Best I can describe the way they work is like a normal air hose. Here is a assembly sheet from my Aeroquip catalog. http://www.73-87.com/garage_photos/t...s/assembly.jpg |
Dang Mike you type too fast :D :D .......
There is some more good info on the AN fittings http://www.russellperformance.com/au...l_flow_how.htm |
Thanks Guys! ;) They sure look alot better and professional looking than a black hose to a barb connector and a hose clamp!
