Factory Roof Anntena Holes?
 

I was told this 1969 Chevy truck was an ODG Bell Telephone Co. truck and most everything I've noticed on it indicates that is true.

When I got it 20 years ago, I removed the dome light and found an antenna wire coming from the roof area on down, but dead ended before going much further, so I just pulled it out.

But there are three plugs on the roof, and I just wondered if the factory or maybe a contractor would have done this modification?

Also has a plug hookup for I assume a trailer that I blocked with an repo rear bumper and still has traces of the ODG color located in various spots so I do believe this was a telephone truck as the seller indicated.

Found this on top of my 69 after blasting. I believe that it was originally used by a local army / ammunition plant.

I have one hole in the center of the cab roof of my '68 C/10 Stepside. It was a California truck. I believe it may have originally belonged to CalTrans or Southern Pacific Railroad.
The hole is about 1/2" i.d. and is covered by a black rubber grommet that I have never messed with. It doesn't leak. Probably for a VHF/UHF stubby whip. There are old screw holes where coax cable retainers ran across the cab cieling and down the passenger side B Pillar.
No AM radio, no power accessories, manual steering, 4-Speed SM465, 292 L6, 17.5 x 5.25 Rims and West Coast Jr mirrors are clues to its origin.

The comm radio mods were not factory, possibly done at the dealer level, but more likely a specialist communications subcontractor was involved, unless a big outfit had their own Radio Shop.

Yea I just always wondered about who would have made those holes and thought I would ask here.

As far as I can tell, mine don't leak either, and here in WA. that is pretty amazing!

I'm going to leave them alone for now.

As to the trailer plug, that is a (then) common 6 plug trailer connector - it was used for heavy duty trailers before the advent of electric trailer brakes. They were available as a factory RPO option or installed by a dealer - my truck had one in the same spot but it was done by the PO, not a dealer.

There's also the possability that my cab roof center-mounted hole was for an Amber Gumball Machine [rotating flasher] and not a 2-Way radio, which might have had a long whip somewhere else.
