H3 Wheels on a 87 GMC V1500 4x4 HELP??!?!?
So I need some new wheels for my 87 GMC V1500 single cab long bed. I am currently doing a LS swap.
I have been eyeballing some H3 wheels for it b/c for some reason I love how they look. Unfortunately I am not a part of the 8 lug club yet so I have to get 6 lug. I found some and talked the guy down to $300 shipped. I have researched and the lug pattern is the same 6x5.5 and they have a 4" hub bore versus my 87's 3.5" I think. So I may need a hub spacer. What I am concerned about is I think they use a different size wheel stud. I read somewhere about newer trucks being M14 or something and the H3s are M12 or something like that. Any ideas what I would need to do to get these to fit? Also I havn't found anyone who has pics of this done before. HELP?!!? Here are some pics the guy sent me. http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...pslo2l1zyt.jpg http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...psvthkttrs.jpg http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...psllrhwfje.jpg http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6ol5riai.jpg |
Re: H3 Wheels on a 87 GMC V1500 4x4 HELP??!?!?
The bigger problem other than hub bore/lug pattern is that those wheels are a positive offset made for IFS. IFS truck hub spaced way out and IFS wheel has deep back space.
Look at your current wheel vs these. See how deep your wheel is to these? Loads of rubbing and clearance problems running these. Ask him to measure backspace and compare that to your current wheel. |

From what I have researched I think the back spacing on the H3 is about 5.5" :( So I agree in thinking that it wont work. Which is depressing. |

It will work, just need spacers and to bore the wheel out. There is a link where someone took newer wheels and put them on their blazer, see if I can find it...

Just really don't like the idea of spacers, especially over 1". |

Re: H3 Wheels on a 87 GMC V1500 4x4 HELP??!?!?
FYI, the newer GM dually's have a spacer on the front that converts to a dually, it's like 7-8" deep. I think 2-3" will be fine...

Re: H3 Wheels on a 87 GMC V1500 4x4 HELP??!?!?
Just found a set with tires and TPMS locally for only $250. I guess I am going to try and buy them if no one beats me to them. I can live with a 1-1.75" spacer I suppose.
The rear is going to be swapped to a 01 rearend anyways w/ 3.73 posi at some point when I get the time. |
Re: H3 Wheels on a 87 GMC V1500 4x4 HELP??!?!?
I got the set of H3 rims. 16x7.5 with what appears to be a 5.5" offset.
Heres what I was running and then the H3 rims. http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...psguysubvx.jpg http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...psl47xome0.jpg http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...pseidnghjn.jpg http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7npkorcf.jpg This is where it is hitting: http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...psr6quzqol.jpg Need about 1 3/4" spacer: http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...psdazsqbk7.jpg Tried using some 1" spacers my buddy had that he didn't use for his 98 lifted chevy but they werent thick enough. Also Silverados have a M14 stud and the H3 uses a M12... How, where, and what spacers should I order? Any ideas? |
