american autowire 68 stepside questions
 

So I am in the process of installing my american autowire harness part #510333 on my 68' c15. I am confused on the rear body harness when it says on stepside models you must build the entire rear extension harness as you will NOT be using the rear pig tail assemblies. There is no diagram for the stepside models so Im pretty lost. heres a link to the instructions. http://www.americanautowire.com/PDFL...20IN%201.0.pdf

I have more questions but would like to get the rear knocked out now thanks

ive got the stepside extensions but instructions arent clear how to hook them up to the sockets part E

Ok got the rear harness in. The po installed some weird taillights and diddnt realize until digging around on the web. Just front lights and engine to go!

definatly will.. still got a few loose wires under dash im not too sure too sure about but should have the engine bay knocked out tonight.

probably a dumb question but if im using mechanical oil press. and water temp gauges can i leave the sending unit wires for both disconnected?

Yes if you are using mechanical the electric wires dont need to be run but either way make sure you have some kind of gauge working so youll know whats going on with the engine.

Thanks. Another question. I also run an aftermarket tach. Should I splice that into the tach wire on the distributer along with the coil/tach wire from the new harness or is the wire on the harness not needed since I don't have a factory tach?

Hard to remember, My harness for a 69 came with a tach wire and I think I used the harness wire that also plugged into the distributor. You will have to look at yours and make sure it is the same. If there is a Tach wire in the harness that is already plugged into the tach plug on the distributor just use that for a nice clean look. I hope this helped

I just finished installing this kit on my 67 stepper and I also install these professionally through a small part-time business I own specializing in electrical work. I would simply connect the tach wire in your new harness to the signal wire on your tach, splice the tach illumination wire into any of the grey illumination wiring in your new harness to light it up at night, then you simply need an ignition hot connection for power and, of course, the ground. IMO, American Autowire is the best bet going dollar for dollar. I also installed a Dakota Digital VHX system and it was so simple to connect to the AA harness!
