mid 80's bed on a 74?

I just recently picked up a 1974 GMC K2500 as a project to do with my 15 yo son. Overall the truck is in very good shape, fenders, hood, doors are real nice, interior and exterior rockers will need some work as well as some other cab components but was pretty happy with overall condition. The truck had been a farm truck and the bed was replaced with a flat bed. We would like to return it to the regular long bed it started its life as. My question is what years will work with it and have the body lines match? I know the fenders changed in 75, but are the beds still identical?

Do not hold me to it but I think 73-87 beds were the same. Gas door are all that may be different.

I have an '86 bed on my '80, there were 2 holes that did not line up, and I believe that was the second set behind that cab, it has been so long since I did I don't remember exactly.

It will work. Filler neck will be different (caps vs fill doors) tailgates are not interchangae either without modification but it doesn't sound like you'll be having a problem with that.

One tons had an extra set of mounting holes in the bed floor but you don't really need to worry about that either.

Thanks for all your input guys! We got the old flat bed off this weekend, it was welded to the frame, and are looking for a bed. I believe I have found one but its 4 hours away, may have to make the drive.
