Alternator mounting bracket question
Hey guys, long time no see
I'm replacing a cs130 alternator with a 12si for a friend And I quickly noticed that the mounting tabs are different. The mount is cast aluminum and on the top left of the motor running serpentine. Has anybody jimmied a cs130 bracket to accommodate a 12 si? Is there something that can easily be bought? Will the serp pulley fit on the 12 si??? Oh, it's on a crate 383 stroker. Thanks, Spencer |
Re: Alternator mounting bracket question
Wouldn't that be a downgrade?

Re: Alternator mounting bracket question
It's a high capacity 12si (140 amp) that were putting in and it's actually in a big 4x4 jeep YJ so were after the simplicity of a 1 wire setup.
I posted in this section because this is the only part of the site that I browse in and it's all Chevy under the hood :D |
Re: Alternator mounting bracket question
1 Attachment(s)
Maybe someone else will know, but I would have to see it to figure it out. I put two 100 amp cs130s on my van, only cost me $25. Well, the second one cost $25.

Re: Alternator mounting bracket question
I am not very familiar with serpentine setups. Does your existing CS have mounting bolts at the 6 and 12 o'clock position like the 12SI alternator? I assume it does not and that is the problem you are having?

Re: Alternator mounting bracket question
You need to either make a heim ended bracket or go with an 88 Olds Firenza 105A alternator. Or, go with a serpentine setup....much more options there.

Re: Alternator mounting bracket question
I ended up wiring in the cs.
I also learned a lesson: don't run a cs without the harness plugged in. Voltage regulator doesn't appreciate it much. |
Re: Alternator mounting bracket question
What harness? Mine have two wires each. One is the charge wire the other turns the alternator on.

Re: Alternator mounting bracket question
The 2 wire "harness"
When we got the jeep it only had an ignition signal wire with no resistor (bulb) I cut tht wire last night after attempting to install the 12si and didn't bother reconnecting it. Drove it for 5 mins to get down to the shop and by the time it got here the cs with no signal or sensing wire was charging between 16 and 19v  |
