Introducing the Heathkit project

Its our first full-on father/son project.
1961 Long bed step side DIY kit we picked up off the local c-list.

The PO had all the patch panels we need, a new oak bed kit, froze 350 and 7004r installed. A carpet kit and great stock seat, and boxes full of parts both new and old.

The front end appears to have been rebuilt already.

On to the pics!

The day it came home

First step, build the bed so we can store crap in it.

Welcome to the forum :D

Looks like the truck is in decent shape.....except for the engine. If you don't already know, be sure to read up on how to correctly setup and adjust the 700R4. There are many, many, many threads in the Engine and Drivetrain section here on the forum.

Is that your '64-'65 Chevelle/Malibu?

Built the 50 myself :metal: The truck won't be pretty because my son doesn't want to sand (and neither do I hahahaha)
Build thread on the 50 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/t...y-chop.390824/

The floor and rocker repair is complete. Set my son loose with the mig to finish it.

We got it moving under it's own power now, but not all of my neighbors enjoy open exhaust so that's next.

Were also putting a 22 gal mustang tank under the bed. That should be finished this weekend.

I've been such a slacker!
Lots of work happening, painted the interior and finished the bed again
Turns out it's not the original seat, but probably a car.

went through the brakes, everything is new but we are missing the parking brake levers. I'm sure we can get those.

A little tuning up and went around the block!
