Grey goo in oil pan?

Pulled the oil pan to change the gasket and found this gunk at the bottom once I had rinsed it out. Degreaser had no effect on it and it feels like tooth paste. Any idea what it is? Don't want to put the pan back on until I know if it's harmful or not haha ( but wiping it off regardless)

does the motor make noise? does it have good compression? does it smoke?

just clean it off and put the pan back on and enjoy your ride. nothing to worry about

Its sludge. Usually caused by infrequent oil changes and water condensation from short hops that don't really get the engine up to normal operating temp. unless it has metal in it you don't have any worries.

Engine runs smooth and quiet, and there's no metal in it -so just sludge then! First time the pan has been off in 39 years I guess you have to assume you'll find something in there haha. Thanks guys.
