Engine/Carb ID?

Just bought a 1980 Big 10 yesterday. Haven't picked it up, need to make a second trip with someone so I can drive it back next weekend.
But when I test drove it, the owner warned me about killing the engine when stopping too fast, sure enough, as soon as I braked and turned left it killed the engine. I'm assuming the float needs to be adjusted on the carb. The owner says the engine in it came out of a 76-78 1 ton dually, but didn't know much about it, including size (either a 235 or 250?) and carburetor type. Anyone here want to venture a guess, would like to know so if I need to adjust the floats on the 3 hour ride home I can. |

It's a 292.
You can by the location of the fuel pump and the 6 inch tall side covers. A pic of the carb would help. |

My last truck had a 292, the side covers seem shorter on this one. Unfortunately this is the only pic of the engine I have right now.

The fuel pump location is the tell-tale.
As far as it quitting when you need to stop, look for vac leaks. Don't go adjusting the carb floats till you get it home. Slip it into nuetral when you stop if you think it might quit. |

casting number(s) on the block would help .... along w/ number(s) off of the carb. =0)

yes for sure check for vac leaks around the booster lines.
disconnect and try the brakes |

Guess I'll go with the concensus that it's a 292. And I'll start with the possibility of a vacuum leak one is home. Thanks all!
