Sell complete Suburban or part out?

I have a 72 C20 Suburban that just about everything was rebuilt on it, painted and updated interior that I have been trying to sell. It is listed on the for sale section but it needs to go. I am starting to think I should just part it out. Any thoughts?

I am not sure about the price but if your not getting any bites than maybe drop the asking price. Good luck :metal:

Price seems reasonable, I would make sure to advertise it in as many places as possible. Craigslist, eBay classifieds, local classified sites, paper, etc.

Remember you are looking for one person who wants what you have, they are out there but not everyone has a lot of cash saved up for a nice rig, they want to spend a few grand and pay as they go to fix it.

Keep at it and hopefully somebody will like the truck and trade some cash for your hard work.

Ive bought and sold a bunch of cars over the years and I think that some fresh center caps and maybe even and updated set of wheels off C.L. or something would spark a bunch more interest. Its amazing how the little things like that will inspire a buyer. Just my $.02. Good luck, sweet ride

If it was a 4X4 and I had the cash coming in, I'd buy it.

So, don't part it out man, it's much too nice for that. Just take your time, the right buyer is out there.

Re: Sell complete Suburban or part out?

It seems like it is reasonably priced compared to the ones on classiccars.com too. They don't seem to move quick...even the one for $5k.

It's less than what I paid in May and yours appears to be in better condition. I've recently spent >$4k adding the front air and fixing a bunch of things. Now, I'm starting to show more rust. I could go on. The big block economy may be a deterrent for a driver, but a seller for a tower.

It's a very nice ride. I think it's reasonably priced; it's just a small market. So, I agree with additional advertising. Try taking it to some car shows.

Just keep trying, you won't get close to your asking price by parting it.

I echo the same things other people said...a few touches towards a more original look will attract more potential buyers. Wheels, seats, mirrors, trim. Mass appeal is what sells. Also, would recommend more photos with better lighting. The engine bay is really interesting, leaving us to wonder "is it really that clean?". If so, that's a huge selling point, since most of these are shined on the outside and original in the hidden places. Highlight the positives with photos.

I feel like the cruel honesty is that 12 is a bit high. People who are looking to spend that amount are going to want a specific color, interior, wheels, and if the truck is cheap enough they wont mind putting 12 into it. But to start with one at 12?

I do restoration bodywork for a living and by no means know what Im talking about, BUT. If I were looking and the newer seats were gone in favor of the originals, and if you had stock wheels with hubcaps itd be GOLD. Maybe close to 12 at that point.

Because the paint is subtle, the engine bay is beautiful albiet original looking, the modern parts that are initially seen (seats and wheels) just look funny paired with such a classic look.

Like a pirate shirt with knickers and bright white running shoes.

I didn't look at it any closer because of the mirrors. most likely a big thing keeping buyers away.

Thank all for the responses. So mirrors and new center caps. I may try that and keep it listed. I do have all the original trim but its a little beat up. Any other tips?

I would put the trim on unless it is really bad

I agree, very nice truck! Highlight it with newer style wheels and mirrors that fit better. At the very least, paint the center caps black or silver! Good luck with the sale!

Put it on free sites, racingjunk.com dragcoverage.com bigger craigslist cities in your area with a lot of pics

Agree with comments above. The mirrors look goofy, as do the center caps. Get nice bright daylight pictures, and the more the better. Every angle of inside and out, and a shot underneath.

When it looks that nice but with only 2 or 3 pictures it makes you wonder what the seller is hiding. Remember, most interested buyers are a thousand or more miles away - it's not like they can cruise down the street and take a look at it in person.

When we bought ours, we automatically ruled out anything with modern seats in it. Some are into it though, its not a deal breaker for all. If you're pricing at 12 thinking to get 10, just price at 10 and be firm.

My 2 cents based on what we looked at when buying ours.

I am shocked I just got a offer on it. I was offered $8500 and the buyer is 1800 miles away. Just got off the phone with him. I did not say ok I am going to think about it tonight and get back to him tomorrow. Who thinks I should take it?

That really is a beauty. I agree on polishing or replacing the center caps. Definitely need more interior pics. Im surprised you didnt make any mention of your fuel economy. I remember reading a thread you posted a while back how you were getting close to 14mpg with the AC on. It seems like you put a great deal of time into dialing in this combo.
Have you considered researching and posting a link for financing? More lenders are finally realizing the value of classic trucks and are happy to capitalize on that. It may require an appraisal though. Best of luck!

Depends on what you're willing to let it go for, and how quickly you need to sell.

If you need the money badly and now, take it.

If you can afford to be patient take some more pics, fix mirrors and center caps, and church up your ad a bit and find the right buyer.

Did you make a counter offer?

Re: Sell complete Suburban or part out?

Taking the offer depends on many things. Was it an "educated" offer. What I mean by that is did he say why he felt it was worth $4000 less than you want. You backed up your asking price with reasons. He should do the same. An offer with out seeing it or driving it would worry me. I know he's along ways away. But did he ask a lot of questions, ask for detailed pictures? If I where looking to buy something 1800 miles away I'd be prepared to pay full asking price after doing the research before wasting my time. Just my 2 cents.......

Re: Sell complete Suburban or part out?

what part of Utah are you in? Looks to be a nice rig, price is about right for condition, yes it's a little high for the market but to the right buyer you're spot on. If you NEED to sell it, drop it to about 8-9k and it should go no problem.
