heater hose/core question
 

I just hooked up my heater hoses like I saw in another thread here, 3/4" to the water pump 5/8" to the intake & within 10 min of idling in my driveway the truck was running hot. I can feel cold water running through the hose from the pump to heater core & the hose coming from the heater core is hot? Due to the length of my existing hoses & the other thread I think I'm hooked up correctly. It's never been hooked up since I've owned the truck but previous owner said it worked fine before he plugged the ports when replacing the pump. Any feedback or am I just stuck with no heat?

Oh, & I was easily able to blow air through the lines before hooking it up, & when I plugged one hose & blew in the other no air leaked so it seems like heater core isn't clogged up, I dunno.

thats odd the water is coming in cold, and leaving hot. should come in hot and leave less hot. im thinking the issue is with the other componets i.e. thermostat, rad, not enough coolant, cuz it should overheat!!!

I was thinking thermostat too, or lack there of, it ran fine before, in all weather conditions. Not a radiator issue & definetly has coolant.

When you added coolant, did you bleed all the air from the system?

While you may not have a clogged core, you may have air trapped in it. think about how high the core is mounted in relation to the other components.

get a pressure tester, pressurize the system, and remove the 3/4" hose just enough to see any fluid come out. that should be enough to get the air out.

if you don't already have one, add a coolant overflow tank.

Yup, you were right, improper bleeding on my part. Thanks for the advise, start with the simple stuff first. Heater kicks butt now.
