new engine frustration continues
 

ok......if you remember i was leaking coolant. i resealed each head bolt one at a time and i think the coolant leak has stopped. i still have the oil leak. not valve covers....replaced those and they are dry. not intake.....removed and resealed w/ black rtv. the oil is collecting on the sides around whee the block meets the bell housing midway down (around starter on one side and clutch linkage on other. seems to make it's way down to the belly of transmission. oil pan is dry. the only thing i can think of is rear cam plug. oil seems to high up on block to be rear main.

this is really driving me nuts. my wife even more so since it is beginning to cut into time w/ her and our 5 month old. i just need to finish it up!

ideas?????

Do you have a copper line to the oil guage or teflon. May want to check the line and brass fittting that screw's into the block. Just a suggestion not sure it will help ya or not.

ARE YOU POSITIVE IT'S NOT THE INTAKE. I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM ONCE. I USED THE RTV ON ON THE ENDS OF THE INTAKE AND DIDN'T GET THE BEAD THICK ENOUGH.

If you can eyeball the front surface of the flywheel (engine side) and it looks like oil has been spinning off of it, it's probably the rear main, if it's dry it's not the rear main.

took the flywheel cover off and the whole inside of the bellhousing is wet. but.........strange thing is the engine side of flywheel is dry, end of crank seems to be dry, hard to see but the cam plug seems to be dry. basically, the engine side of the flywheel is dry, tranny side is wet, dripping of clutch fork, etc. has anyone heard of a input shaft seal leaking SO bad on a four speed that it flings it around? if so, is it easy to fix?

You are running a manual transmission? Did you put the pilot bushing back in the crank after the rebuild?

Pilot bushing is there....in fact I never removed it. it looked fine when compared to a new one.

Sounds like you have a bad bearing on input shaft that moves so much tjst seal cannot handle it. You should be able to tell if it is trans oil or engine oil by feel or smell . Trans oil will have a much more heavy odor.
