Interior Color Advice
So I have a 77 K/20 Silverado Camper Special. It was originally my grandpas truck. He picked it up brand new in 1976 and it has less than 45k original mile on it.
The truck is Cordova Brown and Santa Fe Tan, and it has the Mandarin Orange Interior, which im not a huge fan of. The Brown and Tan color combo is ok but not my favorite. I plan to restore this truck in a few years once my 69 project is complete. Im thinking I might go ahead and paint it the same color (or just paint it solid brown) since it was originally my grandpas and I have lots of memories of it. However I know im not going to restore the interior to the same Orange Color. Its impossible to find parts in that color. So Im trying to decided what color to go with for the interior. I think Saddle would look pretty good, but what about gray? What about black? What do you guys think? Does anyone have any good pictures of a Brown truck with different interior colors? http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/g...psu2jjztod.jpg http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps910e1b0d.jpg |
Re: Interior Color Advice

I think saddle/tan would be the way to go with brown paint.

The interior is not in that bad of shape. The carpet could be cleaned. the biggest issues is that the headliner sags really bad, the door panels are faded, and the dash is cracked. The tops of the door panels are very rough and the panels will have to be replaced, all the other interior trim could just be died to match the new interior color. http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/g...psee42bc46.jpg |
Re: Interior Color Advice
I agree with J Knight. Black or grey would be weird with a brown truck.

Saddle. Over the years I've found browns to be the best color interiors on vehicles. Black is hot and shows dirt. Grey is better, but still shows dirt. Brown the dirt blends right in, so the interior looks better, longer.

Re: Interior Color Advice
If you can, restore the orange. That's hard to find, and definitely adds a cool 70's vibe to the truck.

I do think it would be cool to keep it the Orange. If i could find a Vinyl Die that was the exact Mandarin Orange or very close that would make a huge difference. I could re-paint some of the interior trim parts, and replace and paint others. I was looking into buying a new dash and painting that as well. I swear i found some new carpet that was Orange on some site, but I cant remember where. The lower door carpeting would also be a problem, but both the regular carpets, and door carpet are actually in pretty good shape, and a nice deep clean will really make them pop. The headliner is the biggest issue. I have never seen an Orange headliner, and that large of a surface is kinda hard to die with a spray can, but it is possible. I will keep looking for parts, and then make a decision as to what im going to do. |

Re: Interior Color Advice
I also looked at the seats today, and they are pretty torn up. I probably will never be able to find a Mandarin Orange seat cover that is in good shape, and I have never seen a new one in that color.

Man! Can we say options? LOL Thx for sharing, cool truck with mega options.
You might try these folks for the color. They have about everything. I plan on buying the material from them and having a local upholstery lady zip one up for me to be an exact match. The problem is not so much the color for me as no one make a 77 style seat cover. I plan to reuse the metal rings in the seat and all. I've added up the cost to be at $500 for everything. Thanks for the info on SMS. I will have to check them out. They are located in Canby, OR which is just right outside of Portland, and I am going to be moving up there very soon. |
