Help needed with purchase
So I found a truck I am pretty happy with and I am wondering what the value is.
K10 Shortbed with a 305 motor with 101k new parts: 400 transmission transfer case Wires Rotors fuel tank brake carb headers Here is what needs fixed: -Very Minimal surface rust, sanding and a new coat of paint (Cab corners may need replaced) -gear shifter gauge not working, sounded like it wasnt plugged in -ac condenser ???(the part on the drivers side of the engine bay) -needs a radio, was going to put this anyways so no concern here. -Spark plug wires new but need rerun, kind of messy install. |

Re: Help needed with purchase
What year? 305 I'm saying mid 80's......anywhere from $1500-$2500 be my guess w/o pics. Condition of tires? Oil leaks? Smoke? Things to consider.

Re: Help needed with purchase
1985 K10 4x4 auto. 4x4 works. Tires 80% tread, no leaks that i could see. no smoke. forgot needs timing adjusted (works but not 100% there).

Re: Help needed with purchase
I wouldn't go more than a couple of thousand for it 305 is lousy motor pics would be helpful

Re: Help needed with purchase
Pics definitely needed. From what was described maybe $2500 max since it has a 305. You said the wires where a mess. Have you heard it run? If not then i would go $2000 max

Re: Help needed with purchase
Is the tranny a 700r4 4speed overdrive or TH400 3 speed non overdrive? The 305 is a decent motor IF your primary consideration is fuel economy and not power. The AC condenser will likely be a PITA to replace. Might as well plan on replacing the heater core at the same time. If the tires are not weather checked, that is probably $600 to $1200 you won't have to spend on new ones for a while. Tires can have good tread and still be shot.
If the truck is what you want, your best bet is pay a good mechanic to give it a good pre-purchase inspection. As part of the inspection, get a good estimate on both parts and labor for things that need fixing. That way, you have an idea of your after purchase expenses. Then negotiate for the best price you can. If it meets your budget, probably a good deal. |
Re: Help needed with purchase
Not so much power wise but a 305 does sound good with a set of blown out glass packs.

Re: Help needed with purchase
Well from what I can tell its not against the rule to post a CL ad so here it is. I didnt take any extra pics unfortunately and the ones he has looks like they were taken on the original flip phone camera

Re: Help needed with purchase
$2000 probably tops but I'm a cheap sake. $2500 if it ran great. IMO. Looks like it has a lot of potential.

Re: Help needed with purchase
Looks like a good truck. A good rule of thumb is it is better to buy someone else's customizing work then do it yourself. Almost always works out cheaper. If what he has done is mostly things you like/wanted anyway, consider that in calculating if it is a good deal.

Re: Help needed with purchase
I think the price is pretty fair. $3k would be better and I'll bet he would take it.

Re: Help needed with purchase
One more truck please, this has more of what Im looking for. First one, the price is firm and to fix whats needed exceeds my budget.

Re: Help needed with purchase
I would buy the first one out of the two.The 2nd one is ok but is priced too high needs work and has a 3 inch body lift i would pass on it.

Re: Help needed with purchase
Second truck is way to high. He's asking late 80's early 90's prices when these truck were booming. Keep looking, they're out there.
|
Re: Help needed with purchase
If your gonna spend that much the truck should be 100% ready with no problems but a wash and wax.
|
Re: Help needed with purchase
Trust me, you don't want a body lift. I regret putting mine on and it is coming off soon. Second, there is NO such thing as a LITTLE rust spot. Once you start removing paint to see it then you see that little spot keep growing.
