Bout to buy new gears, limited slip and bearing kit. Should I upgrade axles first?
About to finally re gear and add a posi to my rear end, it's an open diff, 2.56 geared 8.5 10 bolt with 28 spline axles right now. Looking to go with this package I found, I think it's a good price, though not sure of the quality of the gears. http://www.ebay.com/itm/GM-8-5-10-Bo...ebed7c&vxp=mtr
Question I have is before I buy, should I look into getting 30 spline axles or will 28 be fine? Were the 30 spline axles any stronger? This truck wont be making any high power, just want it to be quicker. Just wasn't sure what the difference in strength was between the two axles. |

That's a 28 spline carrier so, you will have to use 28 spline axles. I would reuse your axles assuming they are in good shape. Check for wear at the bearing location.
IDK about that stuff in the Ebay ad, Does not mention brands anywhere that I see. I would want Timken bearings for sure. That is awful cheap for all that, I would be leery. |
