2006 4.3/Auto Ext Cab Silverado. Wont turn over or start, just clicks. Help?

Hey guys! Just picked up this 2006 Silverado 4.3/auto ext cab short bed work truck.

Previous owner said oil pressure all of a sudden dropped to 0. When that happened he killed engine and pulled off on side of road and had it towed. When he tried to start it again it wouldn't do anything but "click."

I bought it and am trying to figure out what is going on with this thing. It wont even attempt to turn over, when you twist the key it clicks, loses all power it acts like then powers back up and then you try again and does it again. Yes it was a good batter :). Any ideas?

Check out the vid of symptoms.

Have you tried to turn the motor by hand? Could be locked up. I have an '04 Trailblazer that did the same thing and the motor's locked up on it.

I have not tried myself. The previous owner said he attempted to but my impression of him wasn't the greatest. I will definitely give it a go myself.

If it is locked up it isn't a big deal. I got the whole truck for $700 delivered with clean title. Thinking about a 4.8/5speed swap since I think the 4.3s 4L60Es are different than what comes behind 4.8/5.3.

Also anyone know all the differences between the 4.3 vs. 4.8/5.3 trucks? I mean I can already tell the engine wiring and all is different as well as it is an 06 and still no electronic gas pedal.

remove the serpentine belt before you try to turn it by hand. I've seen alternators lock up keeping engine from rotating

I will keep that in mind for sure. I will be messing with it tomorrow after work probably. However, knowing my luck the motor is locked down. If so the truck will go from 4.3 V6 /auto to atleast a 4.8 and a 5 speed. Researching the swap now.

I have the same truck except 03. Had a very similar problem, replaced battery, starter, and alternator (went bad). It was actually really simple. Made sure power was at the starter, it ended up being that the battery cables weren't tight enough. Sounds like a rookie mistake, but I wasn't being a sissy when I put them on either. Cleaned them and used dielectric grease on terminals. Then hulk wrenched them down. Not a problem since. Good luck

I checked all that! I think it just locked down, but I wont know until I take it apart.

However the actual update is I bought a 06 4x4 4.8/auto donor/drivable chassis and I am doing a body swap on to that chassis. So going from 06 2wd 4.3 to 06 4wd 4.8.
