Tie Downs in bed?
I was getting ready to redo the inside of my bed.
I was wondering if anyone has tried to add tie downs to there bed similar to what a new truck has? Pics would be good Thanks |

Maybe not what you're after but GM offered accessory tie-downs that slip into the stake pockets...

Re: Tie Downs in bed?
Heres what i used, although i wish i would have maybe welded somthing lower in the front to hold shorter things like coolers and such. http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...35BD1C67F7.jpg

Re: Tie Downs in bed?
sboris,
Where did you find these? I was thinking of something similar but replace some of the bed to floor bolts with these so that the points will be lower in the bed. This would also allow them to be removed if needed in the future. |
Re: Tie Downs in bed?
Picked these up at Northern tool. Kinda pricey, but it was exactly what i visioned. And i had a gift card :). The removable part is nice..

. . . .
I put five eyebolts on each side of my 70's floor ( on the metal lip ) . . . . . . you can " kinda " see them in these pictures: . . . . |
Re: Tie Downs in bed?
Good idea. Will help to keep stuff from scratching up the floor. Post a link for those please.

I think they were stainless too. |
Re: Tie Downs in bed?
The eye bolts in the floor are a neat idea! Would that work for a stepside bed? I'm trying to find a tie-down option that doesn't involve drilling into the metal bed walls.

Below, are some I've seen in stepside beds: ( you just have to take an original bolt out and put the eyebolt in it's place ) . . . . |

Re: Tie Downs in bed?
I filled the smashed stake holes in mine , but added threaded inserts in each corner before filling , then the same in the bottom four corners , each a 3/8 long nut , welded to a floor cross member below , and the side of the pocket up top.Did it again in my 68 gmc , Won't even think twice about doing it to the 69 I'm doing this winter. I'll take pics later if you would like - Bob

Re: Tie Downs in bed?
Excellent thread! I like a good looking truck but nothing I own is for "show only." Even my competition pistols must be "combat ready."

Re: Tie Downs in bed?
I had a friend that used U bolts in the bed of his dodge, drilled them through the bed supports, and then dropped them in, installed the nuts, and tack welded the nuts. They sat flush with the floor and then you could just pull them up with your finger and hook a tie strap to them. They were great, simple, and cheap.
