Hydroboost ??
 

I know I can get them out of a junkyard, but I really don't have the time to do that. Sooooo, who makes/sells the best kit? Also, I currently have CPP MCPV-1 master cylinder with a 1" bore. Will I be able to use this with the Hydroboost kit? TIA.

x2 on Hydratech - I ordered my setup along with the MCPV-1 master cylinder all from him, his kits come with all the hoses and fittings you need.

Thanks guys! Any pictures of the install? Do you use his lines or build your own? Also, I'm running a line lock, I'm guessing that should be a problem either?

Here is mine, not sure how useful though, mines going under the floor with a modified Scotts pedal assembly.

Oh and it's a Hydratech booster and a CPP master and the cover is a Scotts cover for remote reservoir.

I've put together 2 hydroboost systems. One for my 1970 Nova and currently working on one for my C10.

If I do a 3rd system, I would buy one of the kits available. For both of these builds I have been chasing pieces and parts all over the place. Booster from x car, master from y car. mounting bracket here. on and on....

Plus maybe its my local junkyard, but I called them about a booster off of an 80's truck and they wanted $150 for it. You can get one reman from the local parts store for less than that.

Hydratech has nice packages.

Does the hydratech include the metric-standard adapters you need to get our old lines to work with it? Or do they have some other approach?

I have HB on my truck and if I hit the brakes hard I would likely go through the windshield...Its like power brakes times two/

I guess very touchy would be the answer/

I installed this on my 70 3/4 to 1/2 conversion. 123.00 for the hydrobooster, 33.00 for the master cylinder, 10.00 for some used hoses and prop valve from the junk yard. I cut the hoses apart for the ends and 33.00 for the new hoses and a t for the return. I cut off the end of the booster where it mounts to the pedal, I then cut the factory pedal rod off and drilled it in a lathe to accept the booster rod and welded them together. two evenings work and very happy.

70chevybb - so you just mounted the booster straight to the firewall? Did you re-drill any of the holes or change the mounting holes on the booster?

All my local shops wouldn't make hoses like that for me. Getting the hoses was the hardest part of the build.

I took the square mounting plate that was on the booster and turned it over. I then drilled two holes that allowed it to mount to the 4 studs. I did elongate the top two. It mounted flush to the firewall. That's when I measured the op rod and cut them so the booster rod would go inside of the factory rod ( I have a small lathe). I the welded the rods together and still retained the factory adjustment. Its all from a 92 chevy truck with 2 wheel abs. I used the prop valve because I had drum front and was converting to disc. The booster is held to the plate with a large nut, I did have to open the hole in the firewall about 1/8th inch. The factory hoses will work I just choose to make mine so they would all go to the fender well.

Jim @ hydratech has all the adapters available to do anything you need to do. If you give him a call he will definitely help you put together what you need.

I got the 6' hoses, because I plan to run my hoses around the wheelhouse to try and hide them. We'll see how this works out because my truck's paint just got finished yesterday and I'll be setting the cab down on the frame and putting the front end together this weekend.

I will be sure to get pictures along the way. I had mounted the unit up before painting the truck, but of course in my infinite wisdom I didn't take any pics.

What p/s pump is powering your HB? I have an LS Corvette pump on my setup. I'm looking for a good braking, but really don't want "touchy" pedal....

Just stock 5.3 pump, Im not sure what peddal work or HB the previous owner used but it works/

I put hydroboost on my 72 chevelle , big block with low vacuum at idle , so vacuum booster was useless , crazy difference , pedal effort is non existent , very light effort on pedal results in short stops , blew all my rubber hoses , and a rear wheel cylinder in short order , they were old . hydratec is great

Here is a thread, i posted what i did. It's a 2006 chevy truck unit, there are pretty cheap (about $110 +core new) then just drilled holes in the bracket and it went right in the factory mounts. To make the rod long enough, i cut the original vaccum booster rod (believe a manual brake rod will work also) to the length i thought it would need, then just welded it all together. The only thing i had to do on the body was open up the whole for the booster, but it was a minimal amount.

My Chassis is still in Apache Junction, AZ, so no I haven't gotten it mounted, although it's all Rivnutted up so it's basically just drilling 6 holes in the frame and it's mounted. The real trickiness is all the fluid lines in such a tight space. 2 lines for remote reservoir, 3 lines for hydraulic, proportional valve, reverse pressure check valves, the brake lines themselves, all in a space about the size of a loaf of bread.

The 2nd tricky bit is coming up with some sort of bellows for that pedal arm which has kind of an eccentric movement to begin with, and will be frame mounted, so will have to allow for some amount of body movement. We'll see on that one.
