I cannot identify this transmission and need help.
I purchased 2 transmissions from the salvage. One I identified as a SM465. The other one had different numbers and I am stumped. All the numbers on it are NF 9
GM 3872087 The last 7 numbers are difficult to read, but I think that was what they are. It has an aluminum top cover with 8 cover bolts. It is a 4 speed. Is it a SM465 as well? Or is it something different? |

maybe an nv3500 or possibly an nv4500... have any pics?

Re: I cannot identify this transmission and need help.
The NV trannys are granny low 5 speeds so it's probably another 465. Do you know what truck it came out of?

Probably a sm 420 I think they had aluminum top covers. Should be about the same size as the 465 and should have the same 10 spline out put shaft.

Re: I cannot identify this transmission and need help.
The SM465 trans' used in GMT400 trucks had aluminum top covers. They're quite desireable due to their significantly shorter shifter throws than the old iron tops had. I've got one factory in my 90 model K2500. It still isn't what you'd call an easy, pleasant, shifting transmission though. Just better than the old ones...
As an identifier, it looks just like the all iron models other than the alloy topcover. Two PTO ports, etc. |
