Hi all - Project Ginger Has Begun

Just thought I would say HI!
Loved the 60-66 C10 style since I can remember. Finally found this one in September and had to jump on it. She is a 64 and the previous owner put some lowered springs on it and added a 350 and Muncie 4sp. She still has manual drum brakes and no power steering but that is about to change. The truck has very little rust. Here are some pictures from the day i bought it. |

Here is the progress to date:
1. Bed is off and rewired and ready for new wood (as soon as I decide what to do). 2. Rear suspension is off. New trailing arms and drop cross member from POL is mocked up. 3. Old in cab gas tank is out and the new Boyd Welding tank just came in but not installed yet. 4. Waiting for my porter built c-notchs and pan hard bar setup to come so i can finish mocking up the rear. I ordered the c-notch and pan hard bar from POL and they both don't fit so I decided to go with PB. They have some real nice stuff!! Next up is new front suspension form PB and power disk brakes and power steering. |

Thanks everyone for the kind words!
I didn't think her name would be so popular! When I brought the truck home and showed some of my friends everyone said she looks like a Ginger so it stuck. CaptainFab I will be coming to you for some hardware real soon. You make some great parts. For my power steering box is there years to look for and others to stay away from? I know it will be a 73-87. I think I will hit up Red Head Steering here in Seattle for one of there boxes. |

The second pic you posted has me drooling, any idea what the drop is on that and how? Did they use drop spindles and/or springs? Springs and/or blocks on the rear? And finally, what are the front and rear tire sizes? I absolutely love the rake and stance on that truck !!! |

In front I will go PB control arms with 2.5 inch drop spindles and 2 inch springs then if it is to high cut a half coil or so. He had 15x8 235/60R15 front and 15x10 275/60R15! The rear fender is rolled slightly though. I would like to try to get 20s under it but not sure if they will fit. If not it'll be 18x8 and 18x10. |

Well I finally got some more parts in and got back go work on the truck. Just love when FedEx show up!!

Like a little kid as soon as I opened the PB box and saw the C notch kit I had to start the install. Let me just say Porterbuilt is the only way to go. This kit fit perfect. Also got one of the brackets for the track bar on. My arms are feeling all those drilled holes this morning though!!

I don't know how I missed this, but better late than never.
For the most part the truck steering boxes from the '68-'86 C series and '87-'91 R series are the same. There was a variable ratio option, but I do not know of a way to ID that box if the SPID tag is not present in the truck. Red Head Steering may be able to set you up with a quicker ratio box. I believe AGR makes a quicker ratio truck box. Quote:

If you go with an aftermarket booster and master cylinder assembly, you will have to drill holes in your firewall to bolt it up with the supplied brackets. My booster brackets bolt to the firewall using existing holes. Then you can use either an aftermarket booster or one of the many, many compatible factory boosters. Which booster to choose will depend on how much vacuum your engine makes. If it is too low on vacuum, you might consider a hydroboost. For the master cylinder, the '77-'82 Corvette master is the most common one to use. Then you will need either a fixed disc/disc proportioning valve or an adjustable valve in the rear line.
