1967 GMC 3 speed

I have a 1966 C-10 with a 3 speed , It does not have syncros in 1St gear. I have a 1967 or 68 3 speed from a GMC do they have 1St gear Syncros?

Your '66 will have a small side cover with 5 bolts. The '67 - up Syncro 3spd Saginaw will have a larger side cover with 7 bolts.

Neither does my '52 (no 1st gear syncro that is). I just recently finished the ground up restoration and thus don't have a lot time behind the wheel (about 250 miles worth so far). I end up coming to a complete stop before shifting from 2nd to 1st and it is sometimes not convenient. How do you manage this? Do you jamb the box into first and live with the crunching of gears or do you stop before shifting regardless of cars behind you?

Just wondering.

Of all things don't grind them. They were made to come to a stop before shifting to low.
You can "double clutch" & shift to 1st. Push the clutch in & shift to neutral. Let the clutch out & rev the engine to the speed it will be going when you complete the shift. Put the clutch in & complete the shift to 1st. It will be easy & automatic when you catch on to it. It will really impress people riding with you.

I will have to see how many bolts the side cover has. Thanks for the information.

Double clutching is the best way to do it. When you get good at that and really want to impress people learn to float gears and do it without touching the clutch.

The full synchro 3 speed did not become standard equipment on pickups till '69, so no guarantee you'll find them on '67 and '68's unless it was ordered as a extra cost option.
